Michael Bay is awesome.

whoops!! ....I meant Titanic. Sorry.....we're getting some very cute interns coming into work lately and I guess I wasn't thinking clearly!!

I personally liked bays films, as long as you go in expecting cheese popcorn you'll get exactly what you want.

I never looked at his films as movies I'd spend hours thinking about. Lucas sucks.........which is a sad fact. Cameron is good......T2! Kubrick was a long winded director, took his time getting the story moving, some people dig that. I don't.

So who's a grade A director in your book John?

Why, Mr. Hudson himself!!

Just kidding John. You might have started a sh*t storm by passing on Kubrick. :)

Personally, I like every director mentioned so far in one form or another. Sure, Michael Bay has a tendency to suck, but if I'm in the mood for a fast-paced witty Shoot-em-up filled with action and lots of *WILL SMITH* one-liners.....make it a Michael Bay Movie!! Kubrick, Lucas, RR, Tarantino, Kirosawa, Cameron......etc.........They are all good in their own way. I can't say I despise ANYONE who is actually making films. They're all winners....even if some of them have sold out!! You can't discredit their previous works!!

If I get to make just ONE feature film in my lifetime, I will be happy. Even if it sucks to high heaven....at least I will have done something. Kudos to anyone who is actually making films!!

There's also a difference between respecting someone and liking them. I can respect Kubrick's talent, but I don't like his films...unless I want to take a nap (FMJ excepted)

My sister in law gave me the DVD for christmas last year. I returned it without even watching it. When I saw that there were american pilots in the air in the trailer, I kew I couldn't stomach it.

If Gooding had a bigger part, the movie would have been worse that it was . . . historically speaking.

Team America: World Police

Pearl Harbor Sucked and I Miss You

I miss you more than Michael Bay missed the mark
When he made Pearl Harbor
I miss you more than that movie missed the point
And that's an awful lot girl

And now
Now you've gone away
And all I'm trying to say
Is Pearl Harbor sucked
And I miss you

I need you like Ben Affleck needs acting school
He was terrible in that film
I need you like Cuba Gooding needed a bigger part
He's way better than Ben Affleck

And now
All I can think about is your smile
And that shitty movie too
Pearl Harbor sucked
And I miss you

Why does Michael Bay
Get to keep on making movies?
I guess Pearl Harbor sucked
Just a little bit more
Than I miss you

A few planes made it airborne.

I knew it was going to suck, though, when in the trailer the Zeroes fly over a little league baseball game . . . at 7:30 on a Sunday morning in 1941.

I'll always be the first to say that Pearl Harbor missed the mark; big time. I would have preferred a serious R Rated take on it and am hoping Band of Brother 2 (Pacific War) makes up for this non-sense.

David is correct; I found this (Knew about it anyway)

"....a half-dozen American fighter pilots to get airborne on the Day of Infamy; while each of the six men scored confirmed kills, Welch was the most successful with four while Taylor scored three. "

I take Bay's PEarl HArbor for what it is; popcorn and escapist entertainment.

Michael Bay is a genius. It aint Shakespeare but it's entertaining. Take it for what it is. Alright, genius may be a strong word, but he doesn't suck.

Those 3D artist who created the CG planes and all the visual effects in Pearl harbor were the genius. I watched how they do it and it amused me more than the movie itself.

Ben Affleck: You think I could play Dare Devil?
Kevin Smith: Hell, it couldn't be any worse than Pearl Harbor.

*Audience laughs and applauds*

(or something along those lines.)

Did anyone see the "spielberg sucks" show on CBC's ZED program a few months ago? ( Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) It featured Hollywood Screenwriting Guru Robert McKee giving his reasons why Spielberg sucked. Hilarious, considering how highly revered Spielberg is regarded in some circles. But then, McKee probably thinks its been downhill for Hollywood after Casablanca!

Incidently, former VP Al Gore is launching a ZED type TV network for short films. The difference between the Canadian version and the US version is the American version is giving away money!! Canadians have no money. If Canadians had game shows they'd give away rocks like Charlie Brown used to get!

Hi Mr. Blonde

Sorry; didn't see the question orginally. An A Lister huh? Hmmmmm....

That's tough. Is an A Lister a Director who is a bankable filmmaker? One that will be a surefire bet to helm a project that will make money?

Is an A Lister a Director who has credibility and sure to put out an effort that will garner some Oscar nods?

I don't know; For me what comes to mind (from the living) is Spielberg; Cameron; Tarantino; Coppola; Scorsese; De Palma; M Knight; Ridley Scott; Oliver Stone and recently Peter Jackson.

These are filmmakers that garner the "Coming Soon From Director INSERT NAME HERE" tag. Their names alone get one excited about the film. I'd probally throw Mel Gibson and Clint Eastwood into that category on a personal note.

I think A Listers also include filmmakers Like M Bay, Bryan Singer, Wes Anderson, Fincher, Inarritu and Terrence Malick for different reasons; credibility or box office success. But my original list is definatley a "Coming Soon From..........." List.

As far as Kubrick? I just ain't doing it. I like the films by him that I previously mentioned but the others are blase. EYES WIDE was just bad bad horrible horrible boring crap to me. 2001 might be one of my all time films I cant stand and although I see the Clockwork vibe for it's time? It's not working for me; doesnt shock me; doenst move me; nada. Kubrick? Blah.
