Hey guys!

I'm looking for a good mic to use in making a short film with my DVX. I'm looking to spend $300 - 400. What would you recommend and from where?

Thanks so much!

The Rode NTG-2 is a very solid performer, even beyond it's price range.

Under $300 for the mic. For just a little more than your stated budget, you can get a LOCATION SOUND KIT from DVCreators with the mic, boom pole, mounts, wind-screening, and cables. Be sure to tell them that you're a DVXUser member and it was recommended to you on the forums.

Pretty sweet kit, especially if there's a discount! Have you used the mic? Pretty good for narrative filmmaking, especially dialogue (INT. & EXT.)???

I have used the NTG-2. It's a great mic, and will serve well for narrative/dialog. I even know a few VO studios that use them.

Personally, I own an NTG-3 and absolutely love it.

No single mic is going to perform its best in both interiors and exteriors. Shotgun mics are much more suited to exteriors, and larger interiors that are less reflective.
