Miami Dolphins unveil plan to host fans in stadium amid coronavirus pandemic

What do you mean yet there were still folks at the end?

That was a great game.

In normal circumstances, at least half of fans stay to the end even in blowouts.

As far as the fines, the enforcement behind the protocol is as ridiculous as other COVID guidelines, especially being able to take off your mask to eat or drink in public locations.

First of all, all of the head coaches from Week 1 had them off at some point or another, but the league only decided to make an example out of three whom I guess maybe made less of an effort to put them back on after calling a play.

Secondly, Gruden and Payton both barely had theirs on tonight so I am interested in hearing if they will be fined.

Lastly, the entire organization gets together for daily activities, practices and travels with each other every day/week. At some point at some time, someone doesn't have a mask on at all times. The players definitely don't and I'm assuming many of the coaches don't either on their own turf in their own buildings, Tuesday-Friday.

It makes no sense that it would all of a sudden make any difference when they step out on the field for the game.

You've left off that they are all tested and those who come up positive are quarantined even if they're not showing any symptoms.

So, it's all for show.

PS. I was watching the US Open with no fans and the Buffalo-Miami game with some fans in the stands. The Miami locals sat in a 100+ degree heat with the anti-Covid masks on. Additionally, the contest was suspended for 35 minutes due to a lightning storm in the area. And yet there were still folks at the stadium at the end. I hope the hot dogs were worth it.

Not an anti-mask comment, but YES, what you are seeing on TV is for show. Medical theater, as it's been put. The athletes and coaches are being tested MULTIPLE times in the days before the game. All of these major sports leagues want to appear to be doing everything in their power to "be safe". I was at Road Atlanta for IMSA a few weeks ago and they had a designated vehicle entrance for teams and media where you are "screened"(show a QR code from your self administered on-line questionnaire and forehead temp check). Despite still being inside my vehicle and alone, I was told to put my mask on. I also could not shoot anyone, fans, drivers, crew, not wearing masks. Well, let me clarify, they could not use any video of anyone not wearing a mask.

And the other weekend, I had the power to make anyone I wanted to, wear a mask. I was shooting fans for a certain very popular college football show and the edict was everyone we showed on TV had to have a mask on. And of course everyone wants to be on this show, so when I ran across fans that I wanted to shoot and if they didn't have a mask on or it was pulled down, all I had to do was point at them or point at the mask on my face and they'd put theirs on. No fuss, no complaints. FYI: me and my audio guy(and all of the remote and game crew) were tested for CV prior to our first work day. And one of my other audio guys says that he's done several shoots lately where he has had to get tested, although I believe all of his have been on his own and invoiced back.

What do you mean yet there were still folks at the end?...
There was an old LA joke about the local fans - (I heard it on the air from Al Michaels)- "the LA fans are known for coming in late and leaving early. In fact, those who come in late often see those who leave early".

Miami is the same way. The stadiums are half empty at the kickoff.

There's a really cute Wisconsin based Packers/Bucks TV/online reporter. She was doing the preseason camp coverage with older beat writers. They'd be standing out of the Lambeau Field on a fully deserted parking lot .. wearing masks. And I am thinking, "Zoom out a little further and create the desired level of social distancing if that's what you must do". Each of the one-air personalities had a separate hand-held mic. At some point, these TV hijinks cross the old Jack Woltz threshold of looking ridiculous.

PS. On the other hand, I can understand wanting to muzzle Jon "The King of F-bombs" Gruden.

Germany is bringing (some) fans back. (I picked the parts related to the organization while skipping the soccer parts)

Six out of the nine host teams were allowed to welcome supporters on the first matchday of the season, with the number of spectators ranging from 4,600 to 9,300, filling 10 to 25% of the stadium seats ... Leipzig were allowed to give out 8,500 tickets through a lottery open to season-ticket holders. The lucky ones who won a ticket seemed happy and full of energy when they poured through the stadium gates, wearing their protective masks as demanded by the club. Once the match kicked off, ... 8,500 fans made as much noise as possible, clapping, stomping and shouting relentlessly.

In the days before the match, RB Leipzig released a rulebook for every spectator to follow. As well as standard advice on hygiene and physical distancing, the club thoroughly explained its safety regulations.

The stadium was divided into 15 sections, with each one hosting about 600 fans. Up to six people were allowed to sit next to each other. Five or so seats and at least two rows were empty between these groups to ensure physical distancing .... the departure was less organized than the arrival. Every ticket holder had to arrive within a specific time window before the match to get to their seat, but it was up to the spectators to leave safely and in an orderly manner.

Gruden now says that he had Covid over the summer. But his wallet is likely to be a little lighter. Still, a chump's change for him.

It was announced last night that my state is going to begin allowing events to be attended again. At 7% capacity... So the 75K+ seat football stadium will be allowed to have a little over 5K fans.

What I find fascinating is that there's no difference - unless I missed it - between the indoor and the outdoor events. I can see some dangers on a golf course in the middle of the summer because it's (next to) impossible to control the fan flow and the mask wearing. But, risk taking somewhere like Las Vegas in late September where everyone in the stands is wearing a light jacket and a mask and is, at least, given a temp gun test before entering the open air structure, ought to be left to an individual.

BTW, in Europe, the attendance ban is a killer for the lower (minor) leagues that don't have TV contracts. The big star competitions will also suffer but, without the paying fans, can stagger their dates and recoup vast portions off the TV advertisers. Small/minor leagues - akin to A and AA in baseball - depend on the gate receipts. Without the gate receipts, they're screwed.

COVID positives in the NFL are starting to trickle in with 8 new ones on one team announced this morning (total is less than 20).

I can't help but think there are many more across all 32 teams, but if not and these unprovable numbers are true then they are doing a pretty great job, especially for this contact sport.

Titans-Steelers are postponed.

I was looking up stuff on the Packers and saw the Green Bay area hospitals are running out of room. The summer is over, will be in the mid-30's overnight, so it's back indoors. And the infection rates go up.

Originally were supposed to play Monday or Tuesday and then it was changed this morning. Affects my fantasy team.

Cam Newton just tested positive out of nowhere, 24-hours before the game. He's out for Sunday.

This is going to be such a mess with this season. Just doesn't work the same as the NBA bubble.

Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund crushes Freiburg in front of 11,500 fans. "Der US-Amerikaner" Gio Reyna pitches in with three assists.

And, off highlights, no masks wearers are observed. The stadium holds 80,000, but the fans did appear to be in clusters.

And more Titans players and personnel. I believe it's now eight players and eight personnel for 16 total positive cases for the Titans team.
