Everyone's updated/evolving wish list and sophie's choice list ....
Feel free to disagree and suggest something else - theme being to get them cheaper by suggesting lesser known lenses.
1. Used to want Nokton 1.1 50mm - Seb Farges footage is razor sharp and instantly fell in love (obviously the 25mm is a no brainer to get no matter what happens.) BUt the 50mm is over a grand and on ebay I seen for cheaper you can get both
Hexanon 40mm 1.8
Hexanon 57mm 1.2
Have yet to get the 57mm, it'll be a while if it truly sells consistenly for $600. But already waiting the 40mm in the mail.
2. Used to want 135mm Vivitar Series 1 or some 100 2.8 by Canon or Vivitar purely to take care of the long end. I really want sharp images and best low light performance, so I sprung for the 135 FD F2 - not a fan of flare from the 2.5 and really want something for dark venues which I do a lot of shooting in. I see most people on here get a 2.5 or one of the vivitars, just curious how worse off they are than the F2?
3. Used to want: 45mm Leica Macro (Actually I still want this - seems like the best first party 4/3 lens). But seeing as how it jumped back up in price and as gorgeous as it is, was a tad too tight for me. I'm thinking of putting it off on the wish list in and getting a Flektagon 35mm - still got Macro, got my wider wish, got a bit faster, and still an optically excellent lens with the best vibrance/even color saturation across the spectrum I've seen.
4. Used to want - 7-14mm 4.0 - but too damn expensive for a 4.0 lens that I'd barely have a chance to use mainly shooting indoor events. I'm thinking of just settling for 6mm Pentax Seb Farges wide angle trick with the C Mount for 1.2 aperture and not even 100 bucks.
5. Used to HAVE - Oly 14-54mm Mark II Zoom - It's is great. Love the Macro. But I just ebayed it. So long. But no IS, no continuous autofocus+GH2s better low light ability and yes, I'm using the 14-42 instead until Panny comes out with the rumored 12-50mm. I use glidecam and need the autofocus. The Oly, while a better lens and a faster one, just wasn't getting used once I put the kit lens on a glidecam. I consider myself good enough for manual focus and pre focus on the Oly, but looking at the kit lens footage with autofocus was jaw dropping...it just looked Mark II sharp - sure probably the aperture being closed down, but just shows how accurate the face detection is.
Sorry for the long threat, but was is everyone's "sophie's choice" or consolation / economy switches?
Wish list summary
1. Nokton 1.1 (off list) = nixed for 40mm 1.8 (bought) and 57 1.2 (hopefully soon)
2. 135 Vivitar/2.5FD(off list) = nixed and actually went up to the FD F2 Canon (coming soon in mail)
3. 45mm Macro (off list, but will be back) = nixed to aim for 35mm Flektagon
4. 7-14mm (off list) = will try out C MOunt 6mm 1.2 in a few weeks most likely
5. 14-54mm M2(good bye old friend) = 14-42mm is just better to glidecam with and I generally used fast primes in low light anyway.
