Metabones Speed Booster, makes Nikon and Canon lenses wider and faster!!!!!

Why are they focusing their attention on OM mount for the M43? Why not on Nikon or Canon mount instead? Seems that a lot more folks with AF100/GH1/GH2/GH3 cameras are using Nikons than are using OM-mount...

Barry,

I don't get any impression that they're specifically "focusing their attention on OM mount." Conurus was actually just answering my question.

Or did I manage to ask an unapproved question?

Similarly, I'd be happy with a dumb Nikon mount today.
I second that Barry but it is good that they are testing other lenses if only to dissuade anyone from mounting a lens not supported via an adapter to the Speedbooster (as i was hoping to do with OMs)

I've not looked but is there not just a simple low profile adapter for mounting OM lenses to Nikon as there is to Canon cameras

There are "adapters" for OM and Leica-R to Nikon, but what these "adapters" do is replace the back plate on the lens, bayonet and all... so while they're 'only' $30-50, you'd realistically need one for each and every lens (which would effectively become Nikon mount). Moreover some lenses can't use these replacement mounts.

While I'd thought it might be a simple matter to use other current ring adapters on a Speedbooster, it might well not be due to the shorter length and inner optics vs. a simple brass ring style... if a lens has a protruding rear element or other bit, there may be obstruction issues - just like you can make most any Leica R lens fit on a 5D with a simple adapter, but some won't work because the mirror will strike the lens' rear element.

Ah i see, the OMs have this little pic that once engaged allows the aperture ring to function. it can be removed and left open inside the lens (i practised on a couple of cheap fungus OM purchases) but i wouldnt recommend it. Changing the rear bayonet is simple enough though.

I'll try and upload it, i was just trying out this huge lens i bought, 600mm F6,5 prime lens, its like a 1200mm on the AF and is fricken huge with a 100mm front end, i sold it in the end as it was just too cumbersome and a little soft but was clse to $2000 in its day (30 years ago) and was only used by goverment agencies. I have a few rare lens left and i'm hoping tha if i can use them on a Speedbooster that they might be more than useable on paying jobs, they are built like grenades, long focus throw and very smooth, just a little soft wide open.

Yeah, the practical application for it seems really limited. But just from that photo, it looks like some really awesome footage of the moon. Btw, I'm about to go ahead and get the Tamron 17 - 50 mm because of your recommendation.

It's always great to have manufacturers participate in these forums, especially one's working the cutting edge, so thanks for sharing!

Best,
Bern

Agreed. It's always really great to be able to hear back from them directly and know that they are listening and paying attention to their customer. It really speaks a lot for the company.

Off metabones site under questions of 4/3 SB:
"Manual focus lenses such as Nikon, Leica R, Contax C/Y, Contarex, ALPA and Rollei will be supported in April, 2013."

Freaking LAME!!!!

Jon,
It is lame, I would expect a non electronic EF to M4/3 mount. Remember Birger? I would be willing to bet they are having electronic issues with the Canon electronics and Panasonic.

So would the Canon to MFT Speedboster give the camera full controll over the iris, focus and OIS?

Let us talk to you near before March as speed booster for M4/3 will be launched in March.
Basically, yes for iris. Except for AF. Pending issue.

Ya, I'm actually wanting the non electronic Nikon....

Same here, possibly the dumb EOS mount one too for renting the Canon Cines but only for the curiosity.

Do you think you could mount the Canon Cines to a Nikon mount speedbooster via Canon to Nikon adapter?

you cant adapt canon to nikon only nikon to canon.

Oh yeah, sorry I forgot that. So the other way round with a Canon speedbooster and a few Nikon to Canon adapters on my Nikon lenses could be the cheapest/flexible way to go. Not ideal.

Everything I have seen points to it doing exactly what they said it would. I am really looking forward to doubling my lens set!
