Metabones Speed Booster, makes Nikon and Canon lenses wider and faster!!!!!

But are they going to make it and offer it commercially for sale? That's the question. I hope so, and Im sure BMD hopes so too.

Don't have the link handy, but a spokesperson said March 2013 for the dumb adapters (Nikon F/G, Leica R, C/Y, others?) and an electronic EF-MFT "at a later date"

The Metabones Facebook wall states M4/3 arrival "hopefully by summer". Also some more good news for M4/3 users (again from Metabones Facebook):

Brian Caldwell writes:

We designed an entirely separate optical system for micro 4/3. However, the magnification is the same as the NEX version: 0.7x. In order to get a significantly smaller magnification while maintaining excellent image quality we would have had to get much closer to the image plane with our optics. Unfortunately, the m4/3 cameras don't allow this.

The good news is that the performance of our 0.7x optics for micro 4/3 is really good, and I expect that some pixel peepers will prefer it over the NEX version. If you look at the MTF curves in the white paper you can see that the m4/3 version gives higher performance in the corners than the NEX version. We could have saved a lot of money by re-using the NEX optical cell for the upcoming m4/3 Speed Booster, but we decided to maximize image quality instead.

That is good news. I have five Leica-R lenses that work well now, but will (apparently) be even better with this adapter.

It does bother me that, as is often the case, so many elsewhere have commented that the proposed $600 is too expensive. Wake up! That is a steal for this technology if it works as advertised.

Yeah, I guess it depends on perspective... I'm starting to build my collection of primes. This thing effectively would turn every prime into two. A 50mm f/1.4 now also becomes a 35mm f/1. Good luck finding that for $600.

I hope Metabones is better at making and delivering lens adapters than they are at answering emails.

I've tried twice now, more than a month apart, but no response.

I just hope they have a GREAT glass distributer, I have a feeling demand will be very tough to keep up with. There's no doubt in my mind others will try to copy and sale their own version like India and China do with every other product that comes out, errr

That, let me answer on their behalf (conurus is the electronics supplier of Metabones).

We have not made a final decision on the specific combination (Olympus OM to m4/3). We are in fact conducting investigation and testing. Particularly disconcerting is the fact that many OM lenses have sharp rear spikes from the back. We are unable to make a commitment to ship before we identify all potential mechanical interference issues. We may choose to abandon this potential product if we are unable to come up with a satisfactory solution for the interference issues. In any case we have not made a final decision yet.

Why are they focusing their attention on OM mount for the M43? Why not on Nikon or Canon mount instead? Seems that a lot more folks with AF100/GH1/GH2/GH3 cameras are using Nikons than are using OM-mount...

I thought the Nikon, Canon, and Leica R were already in the works - the dumb adapters around next month, and the Canon electroadapter at a later time...

Personally, I'd just like a dumb Canon EF adapter. I don't have a single Canon lens, but I already have adapters to put anything I have onto an EF mount.
