Merlin's max load? DVX w' light?

Hey all,

This forum has always been a boon to me.

I'm looking at getting a Merlin this spring along with a decent LED on-cam light.
The light I'm looking for is made by Swit S2010p that uses the Panny batteries to run.

Apart from the bicep curl requirement will the Merlin be taxed with a DVX with the big battery AND this particular light?

The cam/battery/light/Panny battery combo runs around 7 pounds so am I screwed as the Merlin is listed at 5 pounds max?

Has anyone here ran the type of load I'm hoping on their merlin?

Oh, and what about balancing a load like the one presented above? Will there be...issues of balance?

Thanks for any assistance you can render.

The "new" (current) Merlin supports up to 7lbs. What your are talking about does sound rather heavy though.

If it does balance on the Merlin, it'll be heavy to handhold for longer period.

The Pilot might be a better option for a setup this big.

Thanks Mikko,

My use will be in short lengths, say a 3 to 4 minutes max. and I am a big fella so holding it for that time shouldn't be a problem. Although, perhaps I should hit the gym a bit and work on my bicep and wrist curls.

I'd love to get a Pilot but the price is high...at least for me. What about the vest/arm for the Merlin? Would that work or is it better to pony up the dough for the Pilot as it's just a bit more?

Thanks again.

sincerely,

The Vest & Arm don't raise the limit of the Merlin 'sled' past 7lbs. So in that sense - for a load as heavy as yours (plus the inevitable wish to add something else later), 'ponying up' and going for the Pilot is probably a smarter decision in the long run.
