Menu options limited?

Hi guys I have a Canon XH-A1 and purchased the dvd by elite video on xh-a1 made easy. When they were explaining about the signal stup menu then go into the time code menu they showed an array of optons including getting the letterbox effect when recording which is great. However when I went to the time code section It only gave me two options count up and start value (this one not highlghted but there anyway.) Just want to know if there is something wrong with my menu or are USA xh-a1 menus different from UK ones?

Sorry if this is a dumb question just found that there are a few differences between my menu option and the one on the dvd for beginners one.

You get different menu options depending on whether you are in play or record mode. There are many more options in record mode. I made that mistake when I first got my A1.

Sorry but I put in automatic mode to record and I still only get two options no more

damn it why am I so thick, I finally figured it out, I thought letter box option would be available in record mode not play back option, sorry having blond moment, feel free to shoot me next time I ask a dumb question
