Memory Card readers for quick clearing

My Dad has shot on film his whole life, but finally got a Canon 5D a few years ago. He does a lot of traveling, and wants to be able to back up his files or clear his cards, but he doesn't want a laptop. Is there a device that can download and store filed from the compact flash cards without using a computer? I figured if such a device exists for P2 cards, they must have one for compact flash or SD cards.

Some of the MP3 players around might help. Archos players used to allow you to copy from a digital camera, and there used to be an attachment for iPod that allowed the same

if he doesn't want to travel w/ a computer, most hotels have a business center & then he could travel w/ a standard card reader & USB hard drive. not what you're looking for, but maybe a work around

I've used this thing:
http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-Media-Reader-Connector-White/dp/B0000TNJU4

It works, mostly, but the person who was responsible for the logical engineering of the device was stupid. If you are unloading a large amount of data, it can take a while, and with your iPod's HDD spinning that long, it kills the battery.
You end up only being able to transfer a few of your pictures before your iPod dies and you have to start all over. I wouldn't reccomend it.
