Hi,
What's the fastest memory card reader in the market?
I have a Pointe that SUCKS. It's slow transferring. Hum maybe it's not USB 2.
I got it from a friend out of the box.

Thanks

Hi,
What's the fastest memory card reader in the market?

Well, some of the folks working with RED have engineered some really fast readers that I believe are working pretty close to 500MB/s for pulling multiple cards at once. Very expensive and hardware intensive...not something that you can run with a laptop.

Other than that, I use a Lexar Firewire 800 Reader. It's not a looker, but it is very rugged and utilitarian. And it has an eject button. Seems like a little thing, but helps prevent bent pins and stuck cards.

For right now, the fastest you'll be looking at comercially will be FW 800 readers, which can work with an adapter for 6-pin FW as well. 4-pin is out unless you have some sort of external power.

USB 3 is right around the corner. But of course, without a USB 3 capable computer its not worth much to you. Expansion cards can add the functionality...more cost there.

I have the Sandisk unit and it's pretty great...FW800 is worlds beyond USB 2.0. Huge raw files or 24b/192kHz audio files just zip across (relatively speaking). Only bummer is that it won't read anything but CF cards, a bummer for those with SD cards.

Ditto on all this. Also loving the form factor (small and light) -- fits in my camera bag no problem and I can unload on the fly without having to keep my laptop out for a long time. While I initially grumbled a bit at the cost it was totally worth what I paid (I think around ~80).
