Rant. If not allowed I understand.

So you know the news about the tape and everything.

I find the media attention on this deplorable.
And I just read his agency has dropped him? Probably more bs.

Regardless of any content on the tape and considering for a moment that the source has not been divulged or that it is even him on the tape...

...he's been tried and convicted by what I consider to be a lynch mob.
By that I mean the media.

And let's, for the sake of scarcasim, not consider his or anyones legal rights to communicate without being recorded without his permission. Has anyone questioned his rights being violated? Would this kind of testimony be allowed in court? No it wouldn't.
And that's assuming it was him in the first place, which to my knowledge has not been proven.

So here we are, with Mel apparently being dropped by his William Morris agents last week according to this...

http://www.vancouversun.com/news/Gi...dropped+from+acting+agency/3270474/story.html

which may also be bs.

Fact is, Mel hasn't had a chance to defend himself in a legal court of law.
Lynch Mob media.

And never mind the context of the call by whoever made it. That's why we have courts.

The only disgraceful thing out of all of this is the media's participation, imo.

btw. Be careful what you do in your own home or anywhere lest someone illegally tapes it and presents it in public and have the media jump all over it, even if the content was obtained illegally. Who cares about rights? Right?

// I hope he sues the arse off of everyone.
//And secondly, it's nobody's business what he sais in a private conversation, let alone the context of any of it.

Rant over and out. .:)

All this may be true...but he said what he said in about the most insane manner possible. Yeah, the public is judging him, but his words are pretty clear regardless of the context. Is she a money grubbing lunatic, probably...does he sound like an absolute raving madman, definitely...If it was not his voice we would have most certainly have heard a profuse denial by now.

Legal or not legal. He said what he said. There is nothing to defend unless that is not him on the tapes. He has made some damn fine films and is one hell of an actor, but he deserves to be dropped. Personally I hope he never works again, and I will never see another Gibson film. Eff him. But that's just me. Dropping the N bomb is enough for me. I stopped messing with him after the Anti semetic rant anyway. Just my 2.

In defense of Mel, at least he's got the order of things right. First you get blown. THEN you burn down the house.

I disagree to the extent of the context. Sometimes a person will say something just to P off the other person. We've all, I think, have said things we don't believe. That doesn't mean we believe them. Especially when there is anger involved.

An example:
Many years ago I split on an 18 pack of beer. We both drank half and I split afterwards.
He went to his mom's house asking for money and threatend to kill her if she didn't give him some cash.

He spent 3 months in jail for that and I had to go to court and tell the judge " it was just the beer talking. He's harmless." And he was harmless.
So that's an example of context.

But, it's your opinion so I'll listen up and stop posting then. Cool.

Laws differ per state in the US, but in several states (my own included), it is perfectly legal - and admissible in court - to record a conversation covertly provided that at least one person involved in the conversation is aware that it is being recorded. Want to know more? Consult an attorney.

So, depending on who recorded the conversation and who leaked the recording, if it is indeed authentic, it could be within the law. I emphasize "could be."

But that aside, people are bloodthirsty and have no patience to wait for fair trial or clearance of reputation. It's nothing new... it's only easier to perpetuate with all this new-fangled technology. It should come as no surprise to a member of these forums, especially given the recent rash of growing pains (and bronzings) we've seen, that some one would post something to the 'Net in a reactionary manner and without stopping to think about what ramifications it may actually have.

The dude is an absolute mess -- in every conceivable way. I, too, stopped giving a crap about his stuff after the infamous DWI arrest/anti-semetic diatribe. He's dead to me.

To be quite honest, I don't care what he says or does in real life. If I cared about what directors, producers and actors thought outside of their work, I guarantee I'd never watch a film.

I enjoy Mel Gibson movies for the most part and shall continue to watch them regardless. His verbally berating his wife is of no concern to me.

verbally berating his wife is one thing. Dropping the N bomb is another. That has nothing to do with dissing his wife. But I feel you Hunter. I just don't mess with him. It's not a major issue with me, I just can't support anything he does. I have 2 babies, a mortgage and a car payment, damn a Mel Gibson.

He did threaten his wife (ex-wife?)... so if laws were broken doing that, he needs to go to jail. And as C2V pointed out, in many states it was perfectly legal to record the conversation... whether it's legal to record in the state it was recorded in I don't know.

That said, it's more sad than everything. To see someone at the top of his game and having the talent that he has become the absolute train wreck he's become is depressing. He really needs some serious help.

I understand what you're saying Richard - it makes sense. I just try to disconnect from celebrities' lives in general...I rather concern myself with immediate people in my life than follow media frenzies. To me, that's work and I make it a rule never to bring work into my personal life (if I can help it).

I can buy this up to a point. For instance, the Michael Richards incident I think was a case of someone trying to be provocatively outrageous in a comedy club setting and going way off the mark. I don't think it proves the man is a racist...But Mel throwing out racial slurs in a private conversation tells me where his head is truly at. They weren't even slurs aimed at the person he was talking to. They were just collateral damage.

No doubt, I feel you.

Sorry to close this thread before it actually gets ugly; but I'm going to close this thread before it gets ugly.

The topic is clearly potentially quite inflammatory (and very ugly); and given that the heart of the issue (Mr. Gibson's comments) are of a religious nature; we are going to ask that this topic be left to locations other than DVXuser.

Thanks.
