Mc 6:

Yes, looks great. It's kinda nuts that folks aren't more excited about it over here!

You should have titled your thread

*** AVID MEDIA COMPOSER 6 - 64 BIT, FULL STEREO, DIRECT EPIC SUPPORT, 7.1 SURROUND, COLOR GRADING TRACKBALL SUPPORT, PROPER 3RD PARTY I/O ***

or something, and put it in News :)

"NEW AVID MEDIA COMPOSER 6- NOW WITH THE SPECS, FEATURES AND LOOK OF ADOBE PREMIERE" would have been enough ;-)

That might have startled the ones that cringe with the thought of Premier. EX: ME :).

Don't know why, but I have used the big 3 and out of them all, there is just something about Premier that bothers me (This excludes FCPX obviously, which just makes me want to throw my keyboard and go on a shooting rampage).

Since the Canon and Red announcements do not affect me (guessing they do not really affect many people interested), this is by far the most exciting announcement for me.

Excited about the ability to now edit AVCHD natively.

I just hope they keep their killer $300 student deal! Ive been waiting for this to come out to take advantage of it!

Media Composer does things Premiere can't.

Premiere does things that Media Composer can't.

If you update Media Composer to do some more Premiere-style stuff...
- it doesn't mean that Media Composer stops doing all of those things that Premiere can't do yet :)

BTW, once Premiere supports:
editing: fantastic trim mode, organizational color-coding, great codec (DNxHD)
collaboration: multiple editors can work on the same project at the same time
effects: vector paint, optical flow time remapping, adjustment layers
interface: support color grading wheels, mixing interfaces & flying faders
3D stereo: (well, you could add Cineform but it's still clunky as hell by comparison)
plus media management, finishing tools... blah blah blah

...I will gladly consider it! I just want the best of all worlds.

LOL, you had me at the "Fantastic Trim Mode"

Is that next to the "Great Edit" Button?

Frank - one question: do you know how Avid's trim tools work vs Premiere's? I do.

Seriously, if Adobe Premiere was as good as Avid, I would use it. TRUST ME. I use After Effects every day (have used it since 2000 or so). I have used Premiere since v5.5 (1998 or so - pre "Pro"). Would be lovely to do everything within the same software suite.

I would love to switch - but it's just not as good yet, sorry. For the moment, Avid is worth the hassle. No agenda here, just want to use the best editor.

I worked on avid from 1995 till about 2001 and never touched it again since than, so I have no Idea how things changed.
But I never liked it and was happy to switch to Premiere around that time.
Never liked FC too.

I guess it´s all about your personal preferences, priorities, taste and workflow.

To each his own.

One thing I found though is, that a lot of AVID and FCP editors often say Premiere can´t do this Premiere cant do that.
Once you read the manual, you find. that it absolutely can do the most things, but they have a different name or are in a different place.

Well to each his own.

It all boils down to: As long as it can cut and glue together again, you can edit any blockbuster on it.
Everything else is nice to have.
