planning to get a 7d in the next month or so for a film in july. doing alot of handheld work for that film and ive seen nice results with eyepieces as stabilizers.

Question : Can i use an eye peice (zfinder jr) for myself as the DP...and use a dvi to hdmi conveter on a laptop (no hdmi on laptop) along with a splitter for someone else to monitor? If yes will there be significant loss in picture quality? the director just needs to see whats goin on properly...but not necessarily for focus or anything.

Later on or whenever i can afford to i'll get a CMP cage/shoulder mount rig +monitor.

watch out for the evil moire and jello effect. Pan smoothly, no radical shakes or whip pans, use your camera magnification for precise focus and double check it on a good crisp monitor . The problem is artifacts on Ntsc down converted monitors are not visable on progressive scan lcds. Both are great to have, thru a MXO2 or AJA IOHD.
Cheers

To elaborate on Phil's overall point, take the camera out and shoot with it 'till you're sick of shooting, in all different sorts of circumstances. Know where the problems lie so that you're prepared for them before your film even starts shooting.
