Maxtor as p2 dump?

Would this Maxtor External HD be suitable for unloading (in post) p2 footage directly from the hvx?

The FS100 is by far too expensive for me to use as storage for my upcoming trip into the wild (and its only 100gb). I need at least a few TB's of space and this new Maxtor supports firewire. Would I be able to dump my footage from the HVX (in post) to this HD?
(I use a pc but edit my stuff on the macs at school)

I'd go with Lacie Rugged Hard Drives. They come in sizes up to I think 200GB. Dunno what other ppls experiences have been with these!

re: Maxtor

I'm looking at that very Maxtor drive as it sits on my desk right now. I bought it two weeks ago to use as a backup to dump my P2 cards onto.

The drive failed miserably and I lost all my data on Friday, luckily I had the FCP quicktimes on one of my SATA's. Don't buy this drive, don't buy ANY Maxtor drive they are junk. This isn't the first Maxtor to fail on me but it will be the last because I will never buy one again.

Taking this drive back tomorrow and getting a G-tech.

sorry to hear that Take2
I'll check out the G-tech *but still hoping naively to find something that will run off a 26w solar panel*
Thanks all for the advice

Perhaps you should look into a drive that can be USB bus powerered. Then you could bring lots of extra laptop batteries

The Cal-Digit Firewire VR's are an excellent buy and can be set up RAID 0, 1 or JBOB. For bus powered USB-FW400-FW800 look at the Wiebetech Combo-GB drive, very reliable for dumping in the field and even editing.
