Hi guys,

I cant seem to find online what the max iso is of the FS7. Also in your opinion what high iso is still usable?

Thanks.

IMO 6000 is Max usable, but sort of irrelevant.

If I was shooting at night I'd probably shoot EI 2000 using a speed booster and a fast prime and then raise in post.

For events in slog2 8000 is my absolute max. Corporate work I don't want to go over 5000. When I was use HG I can push it a little higher.

Ive gone up to 8000 in CustomSlog and it looks acceptable to a doco feel.

But you must fill the wfm - shooting high Iso and under is a no go.

8000 in camera is better than underexposed 4000 pushed in post.

I've found that in custom mode its the same as an F3, C300 or FS700. Very clean up to 3200 (+12 DB) starts to pick up noise after that. the ISO may vary depending on the gamma used. Cine EI (Slog 3) is nominally 2000 ISO but people say its noisy because internal noise reduction is turned off. Might be OK with noise reduction in post. Hoping they will add optional noise reduction for CINE EI in future.

Yes, Neat video in post.

Nr in camera is both instant and better because it happens before compression. Just use slog3 custom - it looks fine.

You're all braver than I. I'm not really happy with noise performance at 4000 ISO. 3200 ISO is about as high as I dare rate that sensor.

Grug - I think this depends on your exposure and also the nature of the job.

a bts unlit doco probably has different expectations to a formal lit shoot- Id stick at 2000 for the latter

jpg compression of the site will ruin this, but believe me that properly lit 4000 is completely fine - aka class leading - with no NR for the right kind of project

Looks really good, but that's not the kind of image where we really see the differences. There is a heck of a lot of light there above middle grey. It's when you have a very subdued situation without a lot of practicals to be found (a pure sodium situation for instance) where you can really see what a camera can do or not.

I think that is where you must bring into exposure methodology and also 'no lighting' shoot methodology

Say a railway yard at night one should expose it high and darken in post (ETTR)

As I said a thick exposure at 4000 or even 8000 will eat a thin exposure at 2000.

Or of course in a situation like above I have lifted her with my dedo LED (left side)

But even the dark areas are clean

(I shot the first half of this project on my FS100 and the dark areas are like a gritter sprayed the sensor with red and blue blocks)

After reviewing some 4K footage from my shoot last night, for events I would have zero problem shooting S-log2 4K up to ISO 8000. I watched it on my 4K TV and wow it really looks great even for 8000. In HD ISO 8000 is pushing it too much for my taste but I need to get the shot.

i guess none of this can be done in Cine Ei? so far to me the FS7 is a 800 camera which is fine but trying to get more out of it in post gives me too much noise....i guess i would have to go into custom mode and go from there?
