I just got a Matthews M25 tripod for my A1, I know it's not probably as good as a Bogen, but for anyone new to the game and on a budget, like me, it's not too bad. The legs are sturdy, it has a counter-balancing plate and I think the pans and tilt are pretty smooth. I only had a cheap tripod which was good for a smaller still camera and not too stable, but this tripod is heavier for a camera like my A1 and well made. "A good starter tripod", got it at B+H Photo Under $200.00 Anyone else have one ? comments...?

I got mine from BH too. I really like it. I've been really satisfied with it so far, though I have had a problem with the tilt lock being a little loose. Even tightened down all the way, it still can be moved with some determination. However, even with no tilt lock, it still doesn't move around that much, and I really like that it self corrects for any accidental bumps. In Videomaker's review of it, they had a problem with the pan lock being loose, so I guess that's a product problem, but the majority of people who have it have no problems, and it's not that big a deal.
