look for indie follow focus
(universal gear and about $150 or less I think)
EDIT ... also I see you have redrock ... they have something on their site for $150 as well.
yep you're right.msconce said:I looked for the follow focuses at those prices. ARRG!! I think the Indie is 299.00 and the Redrock is 645.00! :crybaby: Let me know if there are follow focuses lurking for less, because I will buy them! And , this definitely is a beast, but oh the beauty it captures....rogar-BigGrin(DBG)

I was looking at the price for one of the gears for the redrock, but the indie is the way to go since the gear is universal I think (but you are right on that price too)
But no worries. I shot ODD Squad and Bone Hand with a 35mm adaptor and no follow focus.
For tough scenes with camera movement we put white camera labelling tape around the lens focus ring and marked 1, 2, or 3 points of focus with a sharpie, then an assistant would turn it to the right mark while I operated the fig rig.
Also you can set focus for the second point, put your hand in that position and then rack back to the 1st point. Now your hand is an awkward, less comfortable position than it will be when it moves to the second point. The idea is to use your own body ergonomics to remember the second point. if you set the first point, and then the second and then let go you have no reference for the second point, i.e. the point you need to rack to. Once your hand is in this easy second position, harder first position, you can practice the rack back and forth.
Only real downside IMO of not having the follow focus is that there is no hard stop. But an assistant can easily move the focus ring to a hash mark on cue and you can get good results with the ergonomic/eyeball method as well or even using hash marks yourself if you don't have to worry about keeping things in frame, like for a lock down shot.
