Matt Sconce- Stricken

Because of a lot of reasons that I don't wish to go into here, I was unable to participate in the viewing and voting this time. However, I did manage to see a couple while doing the big mirror updates every day, and this was one of them.

I haven't read all the comments, but I'm sure everything I thought/felt was covered. However, I still wanted to say, "WOW!!! It was everything I expected, and more!"

Of course, Leo once again blew me away with his composing skills and it really played an important role as another character leading you through the story.

From HeroFest to HorrorFest you doubled, tripled your skills as a storyteller and filmmaker. Your visuals are so smooth and clean, what a fantastic tool that noise remover is. Your framing and camera moves really guide the audience to the story you want to tell.

Some of the acting was stiff and I wasn't too crazy about the "fight" in the hallway between the doc and the father. I don't think it would take much to fix that section, I think I was surprised by how easily the doc took down the father.

The main actress and the little girl did an awesome job, in my opinion. And I love the scene in the diner where she works herself into a fit, screams and collapses to the ground. I also really like the "flying" shot in the diner where the camera flies to the waitress at the table, then goes around her as she turns and follows her back to the counter area (I mentioned that in the BTS a while back also, but seeing it in action really made me love it all over again).

Also, the doctor's office (I assume that's what it's supposed to be) should have been dressed differently. With just the two chairs, two people and bare white walls, I at first thought the main character was dreaming.

Overall a superb job, and the criticisms are workable issues. For me the film ranks very high in spite of those few things.

I'm really looking forward to seeing your next project, especially now that you got the HVX. And I'm looking forward to working with you in the future, I think you will add an element that I am missing and it will be fun to work with someone so talented as yourself.

Keep up the great work...and get shooting

Peace,
Larry

Wow! Thanks Larry! I appreciate the feedback and that you took the time to watch this! I am looking forward to working with you in the future also! My HVX comes in this friday, and I just discovered I own AVID Xpress Pro HD, so I can edit in Mxf files without converting anything!!! I also am getting Raylight though so I can edit in Premiere Pro 2 if I want to. I am having to wait until my next payday to upgrade my M2 Adapter to HD ready, but this one took care of the the cam, a laptop to offload footage, 2 P2 cards (4Gig), Barry's Book, HVX bootcamp DVD, Raylight, and a P2 car reader for my desktop. I am SOOOO excited to see what I can do with this cam!

I will talk to you soon Larry and thank you again for the feedback. It is appreciated.

Matt, YEAH for Avid Xpress Pro HD! I remember chatting with ya about Avid at AOF fest... Congrats on your new purchase of the HVX. I am sure you'll make some magic happen with it!

Wow, wish I had your paydays  That sounds like you have quite the setup going. Hopefully you'll be willing to bring your fancy new gear up here when we work together...it sounds like you are FAR MORE setup than I will be for quite some time.

I'm really looking forward to seeing what you do with this fancy new HD setup...should be some nice stuff

I look forward to it Larry! The way I accomplish buying all this stuff, is by not paying my bills this month.....bad idea......i know, but the HVX called to me.....:crybaby: By five today, I will have my HVX and a bunch of angry credit card companies.....oh well, I can catch up with them next month I hope!

I officially own an HVX!! WOOHOO! This thing is like a super computer! the framerates boggle the mind. Without barry's HVX Bootcamp DVDs, I would not understand this beast. I am so happy, and just had to post. YAY!

Matt, I think you have the M2, right? Well, if it's anything like the Letus or bette, your footage will look incredible on the HVX. Our footage was pretty noisey with the Letus for SPARROW, but thankfully the added grain worked for the genre/feel for the most part.

We were concerned though that it would be even WORSE on the HVX because we assumed the HD would pick up the grain even more .... but to our surprise the test footage that Ryan (235 Studios) has been working on has been nearly noiseless (no noise/grain that we can visibly see), and that's stock with no filters in post, etc.

So just a heads up that you'll LOVE it with your adapter, if you've not already tested it yet.

Thanks guys! I am having a huge problem. here is a copy of what I posted in the premiere section. Anyone know what to do to stop this flashing?

hello,
I have tried the solutions I found here on the forums to alleviate this problem, but it is not gone. I hope someone can help. I am using premiere pro 2.0 and the DVX100b. I shot in 24p mode, as I did with all my other projects with no problems. Now this is happening (Watch the edges of the stuff in the background flash). The red puzzle mat.

I tried the broadcast filter and everything....HELP!!! AAARRRGGG!!!!

I just made "Stricken" on this camera with no problems.:crybaby:

Thanks Brandon! I am enjoying the HVX. It is definitely spiftabulous. I just wanted everyone to know that I have decided to put Stricken on YouTube. I just want it seen and people to enjoy watching it. Watch and comment and rate it if you want to. The more hits on the site, the more notice it gets. I am looking forward to Dramafest and watching all of your masterpieces.
Here is the link to Stricken:

stricken rocked out. i particualry liek the shot where, its a CU of the Phychiatrist and its underlit. Gotta be a 24mm lens at wide open right? thats what it looked like.

It was a 50mm wide open with my ND filter on the first setting and the f-stop at about 2.8-4.0 somewhere in there. I wish i had a 28mm, but all I have is a 50mm F1.4. I used it for every shot in Stricken. :-( Wish I had some lenses to choose from. :) Have you seen Stricken on YouTube? It is rocking too!

Just an update on me. I just got hired at a local television station to do commercial editing. They work on high end AVID systems and pay very well. I am so excited! I can actually eat and shop for groceries now. My wife is jazzed about that too! Also, this lets me focus on my movie making for my at home editing instead of all the gigs I was having to edit before. Yay! I am also excited about how Stricken is doing on YouTube. I don't think I will put another film up there again, but I am glad I did for my two shorts. I looked on www.donedealpro.com and I have people sending me scripts now and that is fun :) I figure, that if I find an amazing one, I will find a producer, and see if it can be done.
