Matching c300 to 5dMKIII

Hey All,

Has anyone figured out a good scene file recipe to match the 5dmkIII to the c300? I've been using the c300 as a 3rd angle, with 2 c300s shooting with Truvid as a scenefile. But, we've been struggling to get the c300 to match.

Any hints?

First thing, in the Custom Picture menu options, there is a match EOS profile. This is a good place to start. The EOS look is in part by taking what is at 50% on the IRE scale and taking it up to 65. This is how they extend the range of their highlights. The CP isn't perfect but it's a start. Then color correct via saturation. IMHO the C300 has a lot of green (verified on a WaveForm) and so you'll never get a perfect color match. But the CP should get you closer on the whites and the luminosity look.

yeah, the only problem is that im really not a fan of that EOS profile. it does nasty things to peoples skintones and is way to contrasty. Ill guess i'll just reverse engineer it back from there.

Well then I would say try to emulate the contrast and gamma response of the 5D MKIII first, then try to match the color and once you match the color put the contrast and gamma where you prefer them to be (flat for instance) but keep your color controls the same. At least then on the C300 you'll retain the DR and flat initial image but once you drop your shadows and work with your highlights you'll have colors that are close. The only reason to emulate the DSLR's contrast/gamma initially before trying to match color is so you have an image that is easier to judge between to make adjustments.

Maybe all of that sounds stupid LOL...just a thought. The C300 doesn't need to match the 5D's contrast or highlight handling IMO, but it would help to get the actual color closer. The rest is easier to CC later. I would rather have the flat C300 footage.
