C100: Match C100 Wide DR with 5D Mark III?

I've been shooting C100 with 5D Mark III as my B cam, and the colors don't quite match, i'd prefer to avoid excessive color correction in post so i'm wondering if anyone has had any luck matching the C100 Wide DR profile with the 5d Mark III?

I've been using the prolost profile on the Mark III, but even at the same white balance setting the cameras do not match.

Anyone?

Thank you,

Have you tried using Rec709. I've found that you can get pretty good DR with it. Try a flat profile on the 5D, and use a slight s curve on the c100's Rec709 profile. This works well for me. The profile settings can be found on the sticky.

I gave up. For me, colour matching was the least of our issues. Our 5DIII pics look like Canon stuck a plastic shopping bag over the sensor.

Viewed in isolation, the 5DIII pics are OK - but as soon as we A/B them with the C100 material, they stick out like a sore thumb, especially on skin that looks plastic and lifeless compared to the rich and forgiving treatment of the C100. We used the 5DIII as a wide shot for a set of interviews in a variety of lighting conditions recently and have ended up ditching all of them.

Great stills camera - but we don't use the 5DIII for video at all now.

Ben.

You have to match the C100 to the 5D. Or just rent or buy another C100. Maybe get them close than color treat both cameras with Filmconvert and not use grain? Maybe use standard color profiles on each camera? But trying to match the 5D to the C100's WDR is just a bad place to start.

I've found that the colors are basically the same if you use some neutral variant on the DSLR. WDR has less saturation and contrast. That can either be fixed in or post or within the camera before shooting. I've found that the key to matching the cameras is to output in 720p using the DSLR for closeups and the C100 for wides.

I'll second this. I have found that neutral on the dslr and log on the camera works well. Slightly different in that I am using a C300 and mixed it with a 1D X. But they were much easier to match than I expected.

I posted the video here but here it is again.

Two-person interview. 1D X for the wide two-shot, C300's for each of the close ups. Worked fine. C-log on the C300's; Neutral with saturation, sharpness and contrast down on the 1D X [like the Prolost method.] All three cameras custom white balanced off a digital grey card on set and then tweaked as needed in post (very little color wise.) It's not a 100% match - it never will be but it's close enough for this type of video.
