What is best: set the blacks in camera (using the master pedestal), or do it in post? Like to hear your opinions.

Do it in camera. The less you twist and manipulate your footage in post, the better it'll hold up for final delivery. Capture it native.

Is it true that a low master ped. such as -15 causes a lot of noise/grain in the blacks? Is there a way to avoid that?

Do it in camera.

I respectfully disagree. Shoot flat. All color information is retained and leaves you with more options in post.

no the lower it is the more "crushed" or black it will be.

On the point of in camera manipulation or not. If u dont know what look u want IMO its best to do it in post where u can play around (if u can colour grade). If u absolutely know what u want then in camera is best.

Actually though, what i do is kinda half and half...i tweak to get like half of what i want in camera....and tweak more for the finished look in post. However i;m still learning ALOT so take that with a grain of salt and do what works for you. everybody has different ways.

After watching that video you made a few times now - I think it is some of the best DVX footage I 've seen. And absolutely the best music video done on a DVX100.

it truely iz a sick video (and i;m not really a fan of the song... well the music is fine but the vocals i dont like . So u must know its sick! ). Now i want to see what u can do with an actual budget. Now that would be crazy!

I saw your light setup.
I use lights like that often myself.
40 minutes only? - very disciplined of you.
I have a habit left over from my still photography days of SHOOTING IT TO DEATH and picking the best later.
But I guess 40 min. for a 4 min. video is plenty.
We gotta hang next time I'm in northern Cali.

Actually 40 mins for a video is craziness. I wud never think of doing that. More props 2 u sir will.

nope I'm wrong, what's 19x3.5. Because I shot 18 takes not counting my lame 2 second story element, of a 3.5 minute song. That how much footy i shot. Sorry, I'm a jackass when it comes to arithmetic.
