GH4 Master Pedestal at +15?

Just about every review I've read recommend setting the Master Pedestal at +15.
Is there anyone not doing that? Why?

Thanks

more noise, less range. Just dial the shot in better up front. You can ALWAYS bring up lows in post.

Then again, maybe none of that applies to you. :) YMMV

Raising your master pedestal to +15 yields extremely lifted shadows. This results in unravel video, especially above ISO 400.

Don't do that! It's like lifting JPEGs in Photoshop. Bad idea all around. No idea why it's there.

iDynamic is pretty good. Try that instead of master pedestal. With the GH4 when you boost any setting it seems to add noise so you have pick your poison carefully. Light properly so you can stay under 1600 ISO and you are golden.

Is luminance good at 0-255?
Is there a Better setting?

Also, what are most people doing for photo style? At the moment I'm set to Cine D -- 00000

I have never understood why people want to raise the master pedestal on this camera. It really doesn't help your image at all IMHO. Maybe dial back the contrast a bit but that's about it.

Shooting cine d with contrast at -5 is pretty flat, but also clean at the same time. I do think that at somepoint there will be a log style available for download. The 5D came out in 08 and they didn't have cinestyle until 2011. This camera is still pretty new.

Yep I have had great results with iDynamic in very contrasty scenes (bright sun, dark shadows) I have no problems with noise either using iDynamic...unless there is very little light, then it adds noise.
I have had really good results even in 1600 ISO too...again provided there is enough light going to the sensor,1600 tends to fall apart in very low light tho.
Also in certain situations a subtle reverse S in the shadows/ highlights can be very effective, but you have to be careful.
Master pedestal...I agree with the general consensus ...stay away from it, unless you want to match another camera maybe.
Eric is right, mostly follow a few simple rules and this Camera is great!! I have used it daily for a few months now...and I like it more and more as I learn to play to its strengths...and it has many.
