CVP (UK's biggest reseller) got ripped off last Friday night, just after BVE. They've lost about £1m worth of gear, including all their C300s, F3s, XF305s and 105s - the list is pretty huge - check it here http://www.creativevideo.co.uk/ It's all euro gear so I doubt it'll make it's way across the pond, but if anyone spots an unusually good deal, I know they'd appreciate you telling them! Barry, is there ay way to spread this through the other forums?

About four or five years ago, another camera rental company in London got robbed big style like this. I was an AC for a production at the time. My DP called me in the morning and told me that several armed gunmen with Kalashnikovs pulled up at closing time and tied everyone up and walked with over a million in Camera bodies and lenses. Probable shipped them straight to India or China etc. Scratch the serial number off and wipe the computer. You find these cameras all over the world. There are professional thieves that specialize in robbing camera equipment. They always know what to go for. Lenses and bodies. In the stills world, they go for medium format digital backs and lenses. The thieves follow production units all over NYC and swipe cameras off of the Camera unit trucks. We had a $70,000 camera swiped off our van last year on a show during a smoke break. Operator left the camera on the middle seat of 15 passenger van to have a ciggy. Gone.
It's a racket, and the city needs to pay more attention to these cases. It's on par with jewelry. Sad
