Camera across this article and video from Mashable that compares 4K and HD footage shot on the Canon 1DC:

There's been a lot of talk and controversy about 4K televisions and cameras. We got our hands on the Canon EOS 1D C and shot some comparative footage. The video above illustrates the differences between 4K and HD video.

Interesting review. Here are my thoughts though, and please anyone correct me if I'm wrong.

Unlike the C300 I don't believe the 1DC internally down samples from a 4K image to a HD image. If you look in the specs you'll see that when shooting in another mode other than 4K on the 1DC it is digitally cropping the sensor to produce an HD image. Whereas with the C300 it is internally capturing a 4K image and down sampling to 1080.

I feel like if they would have shown a 4K image scaled down to an HD image, and compared that with an identical C300 image the results wouldn't have been as noticeable if at all until they digitally zoomed in for comparison.

Just my thoughts

Not a very fair test, since the HD mode on the 1DC is not as sharp as something like a C100/300/.

The fact is - yes there are more pixels, yes there are advantages and disadvantages to 4K. In a year or so it will probably be more mainstream.

It's a fair test. the 4k and HD are both a little less then they are spec'd. it evens out. Though, even then, 1DC 4k is still noticeably out resolving the C100 and sony f3.
