Mark II vs the Canon A1.........

Here is the Mark II vs the Canon A1.

Download the 720P versions.

What's funny is this looks just like all my 35mm 5298 EXR 500T stock vs HD cameras I have. The A1 looks like video while the 5D looks like 5298 ( with no grain ) tele-cined to 2K. The 5D MII is insane good. It's almost wrong........

That might just be the line of the year! Can I borrow that for my signature?

Yeah I wrote that on my web page back in January. That's how you feel when that camera tags the image. You just can't believe that we have come this far, and this is a V.1 camera.

Of course you can....... :)

But I'm thinking if you used some of the gamma effects within the A1 you could have prevented those blowouts. Just like what cimemode does in the HV20 (which is supposed to be preset #8 in the A1). That would make a world of difference.

the 5d looks really cinematic

i was gonna get a hmc150 or 40

but the 5d even at 30p looks like a movie, gorgeous ****

the panny cams look more adept at hd stuff like csi and survivor

with people pushing the hmc 150 stuff trying to make it cinematic, the magic seems missing

The knee/gamma control on the A1 or cinemode on the HV20 can't even come close to simulating the real dynamic range advantage that the 5D2 has at its core. And to be honest, I don't really think it's just perceived dynamic range but likely more to do with superior image processing on the 5D2.

I've used all of these cameras extensively and there's just no comparison...and that's not even mentioning DOF.

Too bad that guy didn't do a quick whip pan--then the A1 would've had something going for it.

Ian I know you're a fan of the GH1 bro...I know...I know, but if you put your hands on this 5d...ON THIS 5D! right here (think Kat Williams:))...you will never view footage the same. I'm almost upset that you mentioned the HV anything in the same breath as the 5d mk II. You'll need another 17k to come close to the image this thing kicks out.

DId you get an MKii yet? I might have to get one if you did. LoL.

IT moving image looks like its stills..... Delish.

Im SO getting one.

C'mon you know impulse buy Cinebuddy purchased it as soon as I could (two months ago) lol. My wife still thinks i'm using my old rebel xt LOL! She goes wow it shoots wonderful video...i'll just tell her it was firmware upgrade. I still think the Gh1 is the better deal imho with that Kit lens and the auto focus. I still need you Bloom or Hunter to put up some "production" footage if ya know what I mean ;)

Lol........ When your a kid, you need to hide stuff from mom to not get in trouble. Then you become an adult and free from that crap. Then you get a girlfriend in no time, which in turn becomes your wife, or one of them does, and your back to having mom, hiding stuff so you don't get in trouble. To much...

What you wrote made me LMAO.....

And I'll just add this to my very long list of why I won't be wearing any ring on these fingers. As well there are just to many candies ( girls ) out there, why settle for one.... :-D

Gotta agree--for all the 5D2's numerous limitations the image isn't like any other out there right now in the video realm. It has a unique feeling of *motion photography* -- a true extraction of the core still image engine, but in motion. I'm happy with it, even if it never gets manual controls/24p. (I hope I'm wrong, but I'm not holding my breath)

I've never had such an 'instant gratification' camera in my life. The way it tags color and contrast mated with good Nikon/Zeiss/Canon glass is just "delish"... as it were. :)

Oh maaan......I wanna I wanna I wanna waaah:crybaby: :)
But I'm going with Leica primes rather than Nikon (Leica snobs are even worse than cine snobs )

I've not shot any creative work on my hvx200 since i've gotten this cam, and if it weren't for paid work my hvx200a would find no use in my home. This mark II is a freak and I'm glad canon didn't here are raving before they put it out else they would have further crippled its video mode.

Just had a chance to shoot some test music video converted 30p to 24p in compressor and all I can say is get rid of the cumbersome 35mm adapters, and partake of the canons $100,000 image quality.

Ha ha...since you put it that way, in the spirit of Kat Williams...you're right. I'll just....go find my rock to crawl back under...lol

Nah man, no rocks! I'm not a which camera is better dude. The image of this camera is great, the lack of manual control leaves me frustrated and mystified. Especially as more is revealed from the hack that the camera was almost certainly crippled. I've read your posts on hv20.com and on here and know you're an extensive Canon user and with that said, none of these workarounds would suprise you, but the image would. It's one thing to see it on Vimeo, but to see it person whew! I'm hoping to have the same experience with the GH1...especially at that price point and no real need for Nikon lenses :)

i would take a A1+adapter a million times over 5D. 5D is not cinematic at all. It's nice for what it is. but i've watched all the footages on the net, nothing seems filmic. I would like it to be so because it's cheaper than the adapter&cam solution but it's not. it looks video with shallow DOF.
http://www.vimeo.com/1448101 (A1 & sgpro)
even this HV20 without adapter footage seems more filmic to me: http://www.vimeo.com/431500

The problem is you can't judge any filmic qualities by looking at footage on the net. The web is just a convenience to show footage to a large audience but you can't judge it for quality at all. You have to watch footage on a real tv or on the big screen, otherwise you can't make a correct judgement at all. Adapters horribly soften all footage up. They are going to become a thing of the past real soon. We will be all be thankful of their demise. They already served their purpose.
