Mark II and audio

I know this is an audio question but it's Mark II specific so I thought I'd ask here. I have a Sony PCM-D1 for recording my non-timecoded nature sounds. I have a Sennheiser 416 with my EX1. I'm looking at improving the audio on the Mark II with an on-camera solution but I won't be using the audio for serious production stuff. When I ordered my Mark II from B&H they had the Rode Stereo VideoMic as an accessory for $249. Is this a decent solution? Gracias.

I use the RodeVideoMic (the mono shotgun version) with my HF100 and I like it and think it's useable; http://vimeo.com/2538983.
It's very similar in tone to the NTG1 and NTG2 which is what I use with my HVX/DVX stuff.
I know it's not the same as the Stereo version but Rode mics have always been dependable and of excellent price to performance value in my experience.

I bought an NTG1 but haven't had a chance to use it yet. Johnny what's it like with reflections indoors?

the polar pattern is not as tight as say the ME66 (which most people are fammiliar with) but I like the tone of the NTG1/2 a lot better. Overall the side/ambient rejection is good and should isolate enough as long as you have good mic placement.

It's known as being ok for indoor work when compared with many other shotguns, but it is ideal to have a hyper. It would definitely be easier to get more natural sound out of a hyper when you are indoors.

yeah I think I might get an NT1 hyper for indoors, bit on the heavy side but hey I'm not holding the boom. they're pretty cheap here too. rode and miller are about the only things we make here everything is imported and costs a fortune.
