Man, if you were here, I'd totally take you up on that offer! I am hoping I can get my trade in and cash I have saved up, so I won't have any monthly payments! Here's hoping!

No worries about being short... It was quite all right :)

Mark & Ted, thanks for the detailed feedback ... VERY insightful on the background of how all of this is coming together, and I really enjoyed hearing about all the details. Sounds like an awesome way to go with the storyboards, Herman's pre-scoring, etc. ... and a HECK of a lot more work than we'll be putting into our pre-production! :) I'm just not that organized, is all.

Sorry for the late replies ... been wrapped up till now.

Mark -- Dude ... I can't wait to come out, there! I PM'd you about your request to get me out sooner...

You need to come out?
Somehow I don't think Mark is the guy to help you with that :cheesy:

BTW, Jack, saw DeJavu last night. MUCH better movie than I had imagined, we REALLY liked it a LOT (didn't care for the trailer at all, just didn't grab my interest). Loved your "You want a mask line?" line ... SO believably delivered, it just gripped me from start to finish. You are a master of your craft.

Seriously though, it was cool to see you in that & point to my wife who you were! :)

ROFL! Nice one Jack!

LOL

Regarding TTN... I am now back in the mix... after being a little distracted with the CF (Captain Fundraiser) shoot and the holidays... thanks for the updates Mark and Ted!

Wasn't it awesome?!

Did you also recognize the guy from ODD Squad as Captain of the ferry?

First off, thanks for all the info- very insiteful, and full of good ideas. I've enjoyed following along with the "news".

I also am going to be heavily involved in developing the pre-viz for the film and we will be using FrameForge3D to create a "virtual edit" that the production team can study. FrameForge not only generates beautiful printed storyboards, but is also outputs 3D animated versions of your scenes/camera moves and outputs seriously useful camera information (based on the HVX data that we calibrate for the program) that we will be providing to Kevin for his analysis and input. If it goes as we expect, we will be able to give an animated storyboard to Herman who can begin assembling a rough score based on the timing and pacing that the animated storyboard provides. We're hoping that all of our preparation and pre-production work will be evident on set in January and particularly on the screen February 1.

I've been using the demo version of FF3D for a while now, and I didn't realize that the full version would allow you to calibrate it to the camera- that is slick! Makes me consider actually buying the full version ....

I'm going to make sure the boy gets plenty of cigars and cognac after each night's shooting.

Just a suggestion- you might want to wait until after the shoot is wrapped until you give him all that cognac- you'll want a useful DP while your on set. ;) Although having a slightly drunk DP could add another element of drama to the film.

The current version lets you set your frame size and aspect ratio plus it will let you set your camera zoom limits if you're shooting with a zoom or you can set it up for whatever primes you are shooting with. I noticed on the user forum that some guys with a Redrock M2 had successfully set FF up to match their lens sets so that is pretty cool. It's nice to generate a storyboard for your DP that gives the lens setting, height of camera along with a scale blueprint view of your set that shows the position of the camera in relation to the actors/props. Also, the current version lets you set up optically accurate depth of field for your storyboard shots if you happen to be working with a scene that utilizes a narrow depth of field or a rack focus.

Oh, and it allows you to import your script from all the standard platforms for purposes of setting up your storyboards and scenes. We are using Final Draft and it has been a real pleasure to use it in combination with FrameForge3D.

We'll plan on posting some of our storyboards when we get to that point.

Pretty incredible stuff! I don't usually storyboard, but I may consider using that program after seeing it in action for TTN!

Thanks Mark for the info- looks like I may have to upgrade ...

I've liked the Demo version, as it has suited my very basic needs- but knowing how much more it can do definately makes it sound like it is worth the upgrade.

Storyboarding is a MUST... I'll admit, with my horrorfest entry I had very few storyboards, and as I'm learning with Corsairs... we should've done more. Unfortunately Pre-prod, Prod, and Post-prod are ALL the same time with The Corsairs.

This summer we will work on a fine-tuned, recut version of The Corsairs.

Anyways, FF3D REALLY looks impressive. I know Alex (Jeffery) is asking for it for Christmas and if he gets it, man... we'll use it! - Can't wait to see it in action for TTN.

FF3D is a very good program but it's always important to remember that it is there to serve the story and not the other way around...

The makers of FrameForge 3d have actually just released a new version, 2.5. From the email I got, it says you can now create tweening between frames so that you can have objects move and it also lets you export your storyboards to quicktime format so that you can integrate it with Final Cut Pro. How that would actually work, who knows...

Thats a great addition to FF3D- very handy.

Storyboards are very helpful / useful for communication- but if you have a speciifc idea of how it will be shot, and you are shooting it youself, you may not need them. But that comes back to personal preference.

Jack, I love how you used the brackets to show you were speaking in an accent!

I'm asking for the Hollywood Camera Work DVD set for Christmas, good idea?
