Just hope it's true and not someone's wishful thinking. It reminds me a bit of the Yes Men - a group of activists who would issue press releases on behalf of various corporations announcing new policies which invariably were praised by the public. The actual companies then had to issue releases clarifying that no, in fact, they were not going to do the right thing after all. Pretty funny stuff.

it's ok....I have manual white balance

yep panasonic definitely has them worried....and so they should be.

not really there's a few options-

LCD glasses
hoodloupe/eyepiece
shirt over your head
7" LCD

LCD Glasses - No. Talk about suspicious, man. Let me know when you walk into a wall trying to do this.

Hoodloupe/Eyepiece - You have eyes on your chest or feet? ehehehehe. How are you gonna use either of these when you're low to the ground? Or backed into a very tight corner?

Shirt Over Your Head - You definitely don't look that suspicious, also, will this technique work with your chest or foot eye?

7" LCD -- From what port? I guess this is okay from the SD/AV out port, but then you'd might as well use something smaller. Why bother going that big?

And you can't use the Eyepiece while shooting on either of those cameras.

GH-1 you can.

I'm just being a butthead but seriously...

It still has the leg up on Viewing practicality. The camera was crafted with Video in mind, not after thought. So naturally.

hehe, I look suspicious no matter what I'm wearing.

The D400 could be the bomb......but so could the GH1.

Who knows Nikon might even push the D90's bit-rate.

It will be so nice to have options

Can you not monitor your video through hdmi out while filming? Like, for proper focusing and such?

D90's got the weird menus and readouts all around the image. I mean you could, probably. Just too strange to do that for me.

Then the smallest HDMI in monitor I've seen is 8". Kinda big.

Here's the thing, if you can focus a 35mm Adapter on the little LCD that comes on the A1 then you can use a small SD LCD video out with no issues. That's pretty much my plan.

theyr'e like 3.5" or 4.5", I'm so out of it I can't remember the names of the two companies that make them but they'll be pretty much perfect for those that aren't going GH-1.

Or at least they would for me. I can pull without problem with an Original HVX LCD, the 200A and HPX170 LCDs just made it even easier. Mileage may vary.

ya but since the D90 is so soft to begin with, i would want to ensure that my focus was dead on to avoid softening the image even more .

When you say all the menu is on the image, you're talking about thes tuff you would regularly see on the screen right? No way to hide that info?

Nah. Doesn't hide all that, at least not that I remember. I haven't gone straight HDMI out since I bought the HDMI cable for it, saw it, and threw up.

The D90 isn't that soft, dude. Most of us just dial the sharpness down and add it in post but that's sort of not the way to go, I think. You should be able to go 5 or 6 on the sharpening without seeing ghosts and halos.

But again, mileage may vary.

the readout on the lcd isn't soft....it's the codec that makes the image look a that way.

i use a 17in lcd to monitor and pull focus when i had the d90 using hdmi to dvi...gonna do the same for the gh1

a hoodloupe/eyepiece will give you the sharpest image to pull focus, not much use running around with a stabilizer though.

Youalso have a GREAT point. The LCD isn't soft at all. It's pretty easy to pull focus with but the issue is that the LCD is not always up to your eye.

It's a simple concept: how can you look at the LCD when doing handheld work that isn't right up to your face?

When I went handheld with the HPX+Ultimate it's almost always at my side, cradled. Without that articulating/rotating LCD it would be useless. And that's exactly what the D90 and MKii do not have.

I guess if you're always on sticks or always shooting at head height then you've got no real issue to worry about.

Needless to say, that would be awesome to see a manual control firmware update. I do believe it would be good for Nikon sales and continued loyalty to the company.
