Manfrotto Super Clamp and Clampod to Mount the SmallHD DP1 Monitor to My HPX170?

The HPX170 handle feels like it could snap if there's any weight on it. I wont put anything more than a mic on my 170.

True. I think the SmallHD DP1 monitor with battery only weighs 1.5 pounds though. How did you end up attaching your monitor?

sorry, but didnt we cover this a week or so ago? its simply not a good idea to put that much weight on the handle of your camera.

if you MUST do it, just get a single swivel shoe mount and call it done. keeping the overall center of gravity low and centered to the camera - as long as your camera isnt doing a lot of moving, it MAY be ok.

i wouldnt do it. several others wouldnt. but its your camera. if it feels ok to you, its probably ok.

It just seems to me that using some kind of articulating arm attached to a rails system and having the monitor extended out to the side of the camcorder will cause it to be off balance on the tripod. And awkward, too.

yeah, but asking the question again in a second post isnt going to change physics.

there are a lot of ways to skin this cat. but you have to be smart about it.

1st question id ask is why the DP1? because its big, affordable and sexy of course!
but i wouldnt choose it specifically for direct ON-CAMERA use. id have gone with another smaller 5, 6, 7 inch monitor. its going to be big and awkward ON-CAMERA no matter how you do it.

manageable? maybe. but still awkward.

and you also have to ask yourself what's the percentage of on vs off tripod work you plan to be doing? if you slap that big monitor on top of the camera its going to potentially be really awkward from both a shoulder or hand held standpoint.

id say that for now, your best bet would be to:
1. get that manfrotto rig you speced out in your last thread (the one with the gooseneck) i have that one and i often just clamp it to a tripod leg, a baby stand or my AC's leg ; )
2. just get you a single swivel shoe mount. like i said above, keeping the center of gravity close to the body will minimize stress on the camera handle.

i hate to keep screaming at you, but ive been through this ringer 9 ways to sunday. and though ive yet to find the perfect solution. i have learned the hard way what doesnt work well.
