Man and Beast - c500

Yeah, it's a phenomenal piece of work - regardless of camera used. He really hit it out of the park. I was supposed to go to the H'wood Service Center in a week for a C500 overview and to see the film projected in 4K; but alas, I got booked on a travel show shoot with my C300! So I had to cancel my reservation. Really disappointed because I really wanted to see it, but I guess work is work... Curse you Canon, you did this to me! ;)

I have to critique the number of dolly shots - there were so many, even placed in there when they shouldn't, it took me out of it and became distracting.

I enjoyed it from a cinematic point of view. I was lucky enough to be shown this at the ad agency that commissioned it and we were watching proresHQ 1080p on hi res apple monitor. We had the luxury of using the pause button – the detail on the leopard really showed off the camera. Stunning quality.

edit:
I was looking for chromatic aliasing on sharp high contrast edges (the c300 problem). I did not see any situations where this could occur in this film.

I'm looking forward to seeing it, even in 2K. Let's remember the C500 is the exact same camera as the C300 with the addition of an additional data path from the sensor to an alternate processing board bolted on.

I just saw a music video (don't have the link at the moment but I tweeted it) done by a friend of mine with the C300, Mick Jones, and colored by the legendary Bruce Logan, ASC. It had all kinds of wild highlights and I saw zero issues. I think he just slightly under-exposed and that saves most shots?

Finally someone taking the opportunity of one of these promotional pieces for a piece of gear to create an inspiring and worthwhile piece of art. I loved the film, loved Jeff's work and was extremely impressed by the camera's performance. The detail was great as one would expect from 4K, but the color depth, dynamic range and purity of the blacks was stunning. An online link does not do justice to the camera's capabilities.

The proliferation of sliders and mini-dollies has made dolly shots now what Dutch tilt was to a couple decades ago. Done to death.

I think it was fine. It looked good but don't really see what was so phenomenal about it really. maybe I need a 4k monitor :)
