I am a master on the grill. If we ever have a dvxuser picnic, I volunteer to do the cooking!
If you're ever in Minneapolis we will have a cookoff, I'm not so bad with a grill myself.

UPDATE!!!

We're back in for the contest!!!

It's not what we origininally planned on, but it's closely related to the original project...

It was pretty much a last minute shoot, since we decided to stretch our original idea to about a 15 minute film and increase the budget a few thousand bucks too...

Glad to hear your back in, can't wait to see it!

I had a top 5 things to do while QTPRO creates the mov file:

Cut the grass
Laundry
Read email from work
Clean up kitchen
Watch Tivo'd Saturday Night Live

And, with that this is my 100th post.

just curious: where'd you put out your casting call? Your actors look pretty professional - at least from the headshots.

A couple of places. I put an ad on craigslist and myspace and got a few from that. But mainly, I listed the project in the Breakdown Services. I got about 400 replies from that alone.

We had 31 people show up and maybe 5 - 10 were decent. I'm an actor myself, so I'm very picky. I wanted to do more casting, but it wasn't possible. I'm looking into shooting a feature, and I'm so freaking picky, it will probably take me 3 months to find the lead character...

I didn't know that. We've got quite a few actors here on DVXUser. It's just hard to keep track of them.
tommyinla, concannon, kimko, ruester...

Yep. If you guys ever need an actor, let me know. :)

looking forward to it
a prank gone wrong is a great premise for a short!
saw one where a table of friends tricked an avid lottery player into believing he had won buy having the waiter pretend to read the numbers from a kitchen newspaper (numbers they had given him off the guys ticket)
the guy asks the waiter to repeat
then takes the keys from his pocket, puts them on the table next to his wife, and says "I've been having an affair for 6 months. You can have teh minivan and teh house. All i want is the Jag" and he walks out.
Clean settup with an unexpected punchline - great for a short.

anyway, looks like youa are on solid ground with the premise, and like I said, looking foreward to it.

I'm curious to see what you can do with professional actors. Most people are using friends/family and non-professionals.

Tommy...I gotta tell you, I have no idea how to rate this. I LMAO. That was a true horror story. "You broke the ****ing _________." Sorry, didn't want to give away any spoilers.

How many times did you do that to get it right?

I'm gonna hand it to you. I never saw that coming.

Let me give you one of these...

I haven't been through everything even once yet, so I wasn't really prepared to comment in threads yet, but as soon as I quit laughing, I had to give you a

Thanks Blaine! I was just trying to provide a little comic relief from all the other more serious movies... :)

I actually did it twice. First take I went on for about 17 minutes and then moved the camera to a better angle and did the one you saw.

Thanks for the thumbs up man! :D
