Maliboo - Horrorfest Entry

Awesome... thanks Ted!!
No problem. Looking forward to what you come up with! Let me know if a particular design is the shiz!

As for your actors... It's better that they learn now that they are nothing but walking, talking pieces of furniture! At least that's what I've discovered as an actor on a set.

The true stars of film are the crew!

In one sense I agree... in another I completely disagree.... I'd be careful saying that about actors... as I've been in this industry I've gained a new respect for actors myself, and I highly respect their talent... I think it takes the complete package of a good crew and cast for a film.

Hey Brandon, I am kidding. I am an actor. I love working on both stage and film. But on film the actor as got to be patient and know their place.

I am not saying that Tommy's actors don't, I was just foolin'.

And I just couldn't help saying that because I said it on a shoot one day after feeling like I was just set dressing with lines and the crew totally cracked up. And I was the lead of the movie!

Most filmmakers would be nowhere without actors. Actors are a true breed. To go out and bare ones inner self and do it over and over again take after take. It's not easy.

Just want to clarify that I do have a complete respect for actors.

I'll get off my soapbox now.

Wow, I understand where you're coming from now... I apologize... I think (myself included) we can forget how valuable a good cast is, and get too caught up on the tech aspect... anyway, it's all good :)

Thanks. I didn't mean to sound like I was scolding or anything, I just wanted to make sure that it was clear that you knew that I was kidding.

Perhaps I should watch how I post! :)

Tom... Ya, definitely keep me posted on the permit. Hell, I'm about to say frack it and just go guerilla. THat was the great thing about living back in Kentucky. No One gave a poo what you were doing with a camera. Hell, they all just wanted to be in it so they pretty much give you everything for free. Just seeing a movie actually being made is utterly fascinating to them.

Not here. grrr.

haha yea we have tought about that...

Im currently converting my garage to a studio and we would be able to build one set in there at a time so we might end up shooting some in my garage some in my kitchen, and renting a place for the pool scene.

Tom... Just got word finally back from the Ranger Service. For the permit, you can only have 10 people in your group and its $150 a day to shoot up there at 'big bear lake' legally. But, in order to secure our location, we needed that permit.

We now return to our regularly scheduled program......

Maliboo!

Take it away Tom!

Thought we were gonna have to break that one up... :)

Yeah, I'm an actor as well. I've done a bit of stage work and I completely respect what they do... I'm just a perfectionist and want to get the best performance from the actors so that everyone looks good, cast and crew. It's a very collaborative effort. If the technical stuff is there and looks good, but the acting isn't very good, then what's the point? It's just a technical exercise at that point... I'm a director, so I really only want to concentrate on the performances and making everything as honest and believable as possible...

I'm old school, baby... Stanislavski, Chekhov, Adler, Meisner, all those guys...

I'm even considering giving acting lessons!

Yeah, no kidding... would have been easier for me to film this thing in Florida... then again, all the serious people are here in LA, so you have to kind of trade the ease in filming for that...

Who did you talk to? I was told to call Inland Empire Film Commision and get everything set up through them. I called this one lady and she's supposed to send some photos of different locations they have and prices on them. I'll try and nail something down through that and then get the permit...

10 people total?? Yikes...

Things are starting to come together, finally! I should be getting a location within the next few days (hopefully) and the lady that actually handles the permits is very nice...

Tom, ya, just sent you a PM saying now they want to charge us $550 for insurance + $150 for the permit for the day. Frak me.. it must be where we were wanting to shoot? Maybe it varies on locations?

Btw, what day are you guys shooting? I wonder if that makes a difference too?
