Maliboo - Horrorfest Entry

Tommy, my man! Been great getting to know you and look forward to your FILM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

YAHOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

It's going to ROCK!

Thanks for the teaser!

Now get us the real thing!!!

Ted

We should have a lot of great BTS stills from this shoot as we'll have Blaine (one hell of a great resource on any set and a great guy to boot) taking care of that task, in addition to all the wonderful pre pro paperwork that he has come aboard to assist with.

Principal photography begins in less than 8 hours, so a lot of last minute prep for today.

Best of luck (other one shot!)

Thanks jp! We'll see how things go...

I'll most likely start a new threat under "User Films" once principal photography is over with and this thing is in the can.... lots of BTS stuff and still photos.

And yes, I hope the prequel doesn't indicate anything bad happening. Maybe that was a way of getting rid of anything with a bad vibe.

We are shooting on Friday the 13th after all...

Man, I hope it's good... with these guys on the team (Kevin, Blaine, Slimothy et al), I think it will be a nice little project!

Real thing will be here in about a month, give or take...

The 1st night of shooting is in the can, but man, the weather was not very cooperative!

Who says it never rains in Southern California?

Just finally getting the time to copy the notes I compiled in a Word doc while watching the shorts:

Kidding, right? This was the entry? Hmmm, I’ll have to go back through the thread & see what happened … I’m guessing things fell through, perhaps just like what was played out on camera, and this was the explanation for everyone to watch & see why the film never entered.

Yes it was a total spoof done tongue in cheek. We shot the real thing this past weekend and it went fairly smoothly. The main thing, as khmuse said, was the weather on Friday. That and needing to round up some extras at the last minute.

I'm going to start a new thread under "User Films" when I get a chance to catch up on some lost sleep...

Maliboo was a great project to work on. Weather was an issue, but only really effected one shot Friday evening. We did encounter a number of challenges, including a rather hysterical event on Sunday evening where two of our principals ended up in the swimming pool during a take. I have yet to view it, but from what I was told the BTS footage rolling caught it all.

I think Blaine got a good bit of BTS shots, both still and motion, so there should be some really interesting things to supplement this project.

Despite being dead tired this morning (we didn't leave set until 3:45 AM) at a pre-pro meeting, I had a great time working with everyone on this film.

It was great working with you and all the others on this project...

I took a look of the BTS today and the pool part looks exactly like i thought. :)

hey guys! Glad the shoot went Good! Tom, sorry I couldn't make it out. hell, this DVX fest wore me the hell out. :) It was 9:30 pm yesterday and I stopped... looked around... and noticed I was still in my PJs. wowa.

Looking forward to seeing how the project turns out!

Which I am assuming was a good thing? If I remember correctly, the BTS camera was about 10 feet higher than the A camera, but about on the same shot line, so this will give us a clue as to what was actually captured. This scene will be a bit of an editing challenge for whomever Tom gets to take on that task.

My lighting setups on this and a lot of those scenes were pretty complicated so I wonder how much they show up on the BTS footage? It was nice to have a great camera op and gaffer on this project, made being the DP a bit easier.

Thanks guys for a fun project!

It truly was a great time working with everyone on this project. And Justin, no worries, my friend.

Yep, it will be a challenge piecing that scene together. I realized we actually missed a shot of Matt walking through the house and back to the pool. I don't know how critical that shot will be to the final cut though. I'm hoping it will cut ok.

Max did a great job as camera op. He really picked things up and came through for us. Everyone did a great job, really.

Thanks Kevin for stepping in on this project with such a short deadline. The production value really went through the roof once you jumped on board.

And a big thanks goes to Blaine too. I don't know what we would have done without your scheduling help and all the other help you gave us.

Thanks to David "ACDC" Chien for his great work with the script analysis and further breakdown and his boom op skills as well.

Thanks to Tim for doing grip. Without that, the project would have really dragged and we would have missed a lot of good shots.

I think this is something that will come out well and we can all enjoy sitting back and watching real soon!

Yea i think it should cut ok. still a little bit of a challenge but it should look good.

We would have been screwed if the table didint cut off the bottom of the framing on the SDX.

Thanks for the kind words, guys. I had a great time on the project and I'm excited about seeing the finished movie...

I should clarify that Tom's use of the term "ACDC" is actually a kind of convergence term we threw out while on set, its a cross between AC (assistant camera) and AD (assistant director) and not a comment on any orientation!

Actually, I think David liked it... I was thinking ACDC as in the rock band...

So when do we get to see some of the stuff? =D
I'm hoping to get the tapes transfered to hard drive soon so that I can go through the footage. We shot on a SDX900, so everything is on DVCPRO50 tapes right now and I don't have a deck - but that may soon be solved as Kevin knows someone who may transfer them for us.

I might post some BTS stuff real soon though! :)

Well there you go! Leave it to me to always think in sexual orientation terms!

Damn cultural sensitivity classes.
