This is one of the simplest setups, the fourth in a five shot sequence that has one of the characters arriving at the location. Here you can see how small these DedoLights are. That is one pushed into the corner of the counter actings as fill / hair light for this actor. The key is a 4 bank Lowel Case Lite 4 using 3200k globes. I think that we used a 24" x 36" single and a solid to carve a few shadows on this setup (a week later and its already becoming a bit of a blur). The advantage of these two sources is that they are so quick to setup. This comes in very handy on these really fast moving shoots. There is so little time to cover the script that I really appreciate the flexibility that these instruments bring.
I really like the CaseLite for a number of reasons. Its light weight, the thermo formed case is its own housing, its a HF flicker free source and switchable between 1 to 4 globes. Being a large source, its pretty soft so you can get it in close and just switch up the level you need.
I own the CaseLite (around $1500) but the Dedos are rented items as they are VERY expensive (the 4 head kit is near $7000). I am always looking for Dedos in the used market, but I have yet to ever see them come up. I guess their owner's are just as fond of them as I am.
