Making a Master Dub at 24p

I am having some issues getting a dub made. I have 4 hours of footage shot on the DVX 100 at 24pA. I have a Panasonic DV Cam tape that's 276mins. long. I am told by a lot of Dub places in NY that it is impossible to record a dub, because no deck records at 23.98. I need a master dub with unbroken timecode at that framerate, what can I do? Does anyone know of a place in NY with these capabilities?

i would guess DVX-2-DVX, but its still 30 fps with pulldown if its just footage.

You can dub it onto a DVCAM tape - when shooting in 24PA -well, any mode with the DVX for that matter - you're simply letting the CCDs capture a progressive image, and then the progressive signal is converted to 60i when being laid out to tape.

24PA is just an easier pulldown to remove, so when in your NLE you can extract the native 24P frames. But there are 60 fields per second on your tape. You can dub to any NTSC format you wish with no problems whatsoever.

yep,

a 24p advance is an easy "deck to deck" or "computer to deck" to do if the advance pulldown has not been removed.

But once the pulldown has been removed for editing in a true 24p timeline, it is another story to put it back to tape in 24p advance.

copy back a normal 24p to a 29.97fps tape with normal 2:3 pulldown is easy though.

Mike,
So what you're saying is: If Ishoot at 24pa to protect for a possible film out & edit in a Vegas 24p timeline, I can still print back to DVCAM as a 60i program master with the 24pa intact?
Thanks for clarifying.

Yes you can, no problem. If you're editing in Vegas you can output it as a 24PA file, which will be 60i compatible but will also retain the flags so you can re-import it as its pure 24P sequence.
