DVFilm Maker 2.3 for Windows has just been released, ($145) it offers some
new capabilities of interest to HVX owners and everyone who uses HD.

For example it can convert HVX200 MXF files to Quicktime format using the
Avid HD100 or DNxHD codecs, or to any Quicktime for Windows codec. The
DVCPROHD timecode is translated into Quicktime timecode.

It can convert the same MXF files to Cineform AVI if you have Cineform
Aspect or Connect HD installed. It willal so work with any VfW codec
or uncompressed AVI.

It can convert HDV from the Sony FX1/Z1U, Canon XL-H1 or JVC HD100
to the Cineform AVI format, or to Raylight AVI. This would allow you
for example to mix footage from HDV and HVX in Raylight or use Raylight
as an intermediate/proxy editing system for HDV.

Also in addition to that it can upres or downres 24P video from DV to HD
or from HD to DV while at the same time convert from 60i to 24 or back to
60i again.

50i/25P/PAL conversions are also supported.

So if I have Canopus Edius Installed that doesn't have the broadcast package so no P2 support, can I have DVfilmmaker 2.3 convert .mxf files to Canopus HQ HD codec for editing in premiere? I think the canopus codec is a valid VFW codec but I am not sure.

Thx

Or Vegas for that matter?

Does Vegas install a HD codec that is specific to Vegas? Canopus has a high quality HD codec that is a VFW codec so you can select it from Premiere, AE, Vegas or any other app that has a VFW conduit. However the Canopus codec is not on all PCs. I think it only comes with Edius but I am not sure.

Vegas does not have its own HD codec, no. That's what Raylight is for.

Not sure if the Canopus HD VfW codec will work because I don't think they give it out with the Edius demo, but hopefully someone will try it soon.

Between Raylight and DVFilm Maker, Raylight is going to be the better product for those who want to edit with Vegas and Premiere.

Maker is going to work better for those who need to convert MXF files to another format for the hundreds of applications that can't read MXF files, like After Effects, or in some special cases where MXF support is partially lacking like 720/25pn format for Avid or FCP.
