T2i Magic Lantern for 550D in progress!

I think he means that with the t2i/t3i, if you were to hook up a HDMI recorder to it, you get a squished not true HD picture, even if you are not in record mode.
I'll have to test the last build that a1ex uploaded, but last time I tried (sept 12) the preview was in the correct ratio (3:2 but with black bars on each side.. but not stretched) Then when I pressed the record button, the image then became stretched in the full 16x9 display (3:2 stretched to 16:9).
Hope it's understandable!

Ahhh... yeah, got that. I understand it's unlikely that we'll ever get full HD out during recording but it'd be great if during recording it never stretched across 16x9. Maybe letterbox it when recording so that the aspect ratio remains the same. Or, wondering if this is possible (probably not) but could a1ex change that 480p output to a higher resolution, like 720p. It shouldn't be as demanding on the processor than a full HD output.

Black bars are still like with Canon firmware, I've never said I fixed that.
It's allright!
Having the preview to be "pillarboxed" is ok, as it's in the same aspect ratio than on the camera's LCD. The only thing that is bad is when the image stretch to display over the full 16x9 area...like an old 4x3 movie "fullscreen'd" on a 16x9 one. But having the preview on an external monitor in the 3:2 aspect ratio with lateral black bars is plenty good for me. I prefer that instead of a stretched preview.
Thanks a1ex.

When you record, it still displays stretched image, unless you have a monitor which corrects that.
So, a monitor that can display 4x3 & 16x9 would solve this by setting it to 4x3? Not a big difference between 4x3 (1.33x wider) and 3x2 (1.5x). Better than nothing I guess.

With my monitor, I have to select the correct aspect ratio from its menu in SD mode. In HDMI, it has a preset which takes care of the aspect ratio and the image is full-screen all the time (only slightly softer when recording).
