T2i Magic Lantern for 550D in progress!

CarlK: this is normal behavior. The camera was turning off, and when it starts back, it detects the cable plugged in. You have to remove the cable before starting it, and then plug it back.

This happens before ML loads, so it's not possible to fix it.

So the latest build which allows you to start recording with a half shutter press... does that mean you can now use a wired remote to start/stop recording? In the same way you would use a LANC remote on a camcorder's tripod arm?

Thanks! I never understood that whole camera was turning off. Changing the Canon "Auto Power Off" setting, seems like just the right fix, then. Thanks.

a1ex, is it possible to to use the shutter release (as opposed to half press) in order to initiate/stop video recording ?

I see. OK.

I have one more question, if I may (I already posted it, and I'll repost it as I feel it is of importance) :

Does the 550d have a "bottleneck" in regard to how it can utilize fast cards (like the UHS cards from Sandisk, which rates at 45MB/s) or is it the kind of "eat as much as you can" (give the camera every card, it will handle and utilize its quoted speed) ?

My understanding is that as fast as the card is, we can up the bitrate/q-scale. am I right, or is there a fixed limit as to how much the current media (or camera HW) can handle ?

Sadly, we're still not able to get audio monitoring to be practical (using the 3/29 build). It works with the internal microphone, but with an external mic, we hear nothing (I hoped we were just listening to the wrong L/R channel, but it's not that).

I'd love to know if anyone has seen an external mic and audio monitoring to working together. Thanks.

Use it all the time. Works great. Is your mic just too weak?

I too have issues with the audio on the 3/29 build. I again have to start the camera with the USB cable out of the camera, then plug it in - or I get no LCD monitoring. Also it flips back to internal mic, even though the menu says "External Stereo". Causing me to have to cycle through all the settings to get back to external audio. I have taken to always rubbing my finger over the camera's built-in mic to see if that's what the camera is picking up. I tried to use the Fiio and the USB cable for in-camera monitoring last night, but it was problematic. I had to return the camera to it's owner and now we're back to just monitoring using the JuicedLink preamp, and visually watching the meters on the camera. BUT the meters are too slow to get a good read on dialog. You have to sing "Ahhhhhhhhh" in order to see the levels, as talking doesn't regester. But singing is always louder than talking - so we're still not getting accuracy. We basically have to turn the camera on, rub the camera's mic, cycle through the audio input settings, make a test recording, capture it to computer to see if we are distorting, then start all over again.

Can we please pay some close attention to the audio thing Alex? I think that's what most people want out of this. I've had everything work at one time or another, but now it seems to not be consistently reliable.

Very nice April Fools joke, Alex. Subtle and believable, I enjoyed it very much - once I realized what it was and stopped worrying!

Using the March 14th build w/audio monitoring I'm having a strange problem. When I use the main wheel/switch (on top of the camera) to go through the different camera modes (auto, manual, portrait, movie mode, etc..) the text on the LCD gets reversed. It's backwards! Same thing happens in the Canon menu (menu button), all text is backwards. It doesn't happen all the time, and sometimes it fixes itself right away or by exiting and going back in, but it is annoying and has me a little worried. Anyone else have this problem?

Yesterday I was recording a live show and then I noticed that everything on the camera was in reverse. All the words were written backwards.
If magic lantern was programmed to reverse the letters on april fools day, then that has to be the coolest thing ever. But, it seriously did happen. It was weird!

I searched this thread and online but can't seem to find an answer.

I'm on a Mac.

How do I mount the card so I can put the ML file on it? Do you need a card reader or can you do this from the camera? In any tutorials I see people just have the card mounted automatically and don't talk much about how to do this. Is this were making the card 'bootable' comes in?

So pretty much wondering how to get access to the card so I can put the firmware file on it. Thanks.
