Magic Lantern firmware released

Just curious, so HDMI is disabled, when you stop recording and playback the footage (while keeping the camera on the whole time?). Once you turn the camera off and back on, you can properly playback your footage through HDMI?

One more thing..

This Magic Lantern firmware only works with the official Canon Firmware update already loaded?

HAHA I love the FAQ on Wikia

"If you can find a video camera that a) shoots HD, b) has a 50 mbps data rate, c) has interchangable lenses, d) has a 35 mm or larger sensor and e) costs less than $150k (without lenses, like the CineAlta F35), then buy that one instead."

HA oh my beloved 5D! :love4:

Once you turn the camera off its back to your old firmware, nothing changed. I'm not sure about HDMI playback, I doubt it. The camera completely ignores any HDMI cable event.

I'm not sure what you mean by that. It works on any 5D running 1.1.0

I thought that once you buy the camera that you had to upload Canon's new 1.1.0 firmware update which just came out about a month ago. I'm a bit confused and sorry for my video ignorance, so lets say I wanted to order my 5D and I got it tomorrow, would the new 1.1.0 firmware already be loaded or would I have to upload it myself?

Assuming that I didn't upload the 1.1.0 firmware update could I not then upload magic lantern?

tackle: You need to have 1.1.0 firmware on your camera, whether you loaded yourself or if the camera you bought already has it..

Sorry to sound dumb, but if you have to turn the camera off to swap cards, doesn't that mean you have to have a copy on every card you're going to use? And wait for it to boot before starting a new card?
Not denigrating ML, just curious. I've always been told not to hot-swap CF cards.

so what happened if I bought my 5D now and did not load the 1.1.0 firmware update? I just wouldn't have the new manual options correct? I would still be able to use it? sorry for my ignorance again, I am just trying to get an understanding of how the firmware update works. Basically what I want to know is if Canon automatically installs the new firmware update on their new assembly line of 5D Mark II, is this the reason they are on back order as well?

it doesnt matter about what firmware comes with the camera upadating is a 10 min process using software you DL online and install yourself

unless you are a mug then you are going to be on the latest version

I have been wondering about having the Fir on all cards - I think it is required - remember this is BETA which means 'for testing and evaluation' ML is not implying the project is ready to roll, when it is I am sure a single update will be implemented

You don't swap anything. You download the update from Canon, put it on the CF card and flash the 5D chips. This makes it permanent, the 5D is now updated and will stay 1.1.0 until you flash the chips again.

Hudson's firmware loads into memory but does not burn itself into the cameras electronics.

It's simply run from memory. Once you clear this memory by turning the camera off or removing the battery his firmware is completely gone.

This is what's confusing me. You have to turn the camera off to safely swap cards, so the ML firmware's gone....
Unless I've been missinformed all these years and you can hot-swap CF cards....
Dave

Thats correct - its a beta for you to run a few tests with - one theyve neailed it it will be made avaialble as a proper firmware no doubt

oh okay gotcha, Why wouldn't canon just make it easier on the people who aren't as technically savvy on the internet and just sell the canon 5D 1.1.0 firmware update already pre-installed for the people who buy the camera. Now just any average joe won't really be aware of the firmware update unless they dig around on the internet.
