Magic Lantern enables 14-bit RAW CinemaDNG on 5D

man, I have a ton of catchup to do. Only found out about this whole raw thing this morning and there are 25 pages plus ( this thread alone ) plus others to catch up on. I wondre if there is anything for the 7D.

The only important thing to catch up on is when it is released! There is a long way to go before people are using this on paying jobs. But hopefully we will get there. Sure is exciting to see the 5DMKIII get a chance to go to the front of the pack.

Great test Squig... some pretty heavy jello on that faster pan... Is that something that comes normally with the 5DIII or enhanced by the raw mode?

Image looks sublime though

What can I say - wow. I can see some problems in many of the vids but man that image looks just gorgeous Squig. Andrew's Video had me chuckling to myself. Picking jaw off the floor. We have reached a new level of expectation. Hope the makers respond.

I think the jello is exactly the same as with H.264 but I'll run a rolling shutter test tomorrow and give it to Samuel to analyse so we get the exact figures.

Pretty sick hey. It's so much fun it should be illegal.

Some of the vids were shot with yesterdays build which had some bugs, I'm running todays build which looks pretty good but I've only done a couple of quick tests so far. I'll do some more thorough testing tomorrow.

That was shot with the isco, right? If so, the jello should be x1.4 times more evident

Yeah. I've never thought of that before, you sure about that? It's never seemed any worse to me than a comparable focal length lens, but I generally don't move the camera around a lot when I shoot anamorphic.

ML 5d MkIII vs BMCC RAW. The shots of the thistle are reversed right to left. Also look at cadence, not just DR, resolution and color depth.
Cadence looks fine to me. Keep in mind that ML is still working on this. A week ago everybody thought this hack would at best do some burst mode.

I'll say this right here and right now and on the record!
"IF" ML makes a stable hack of this I will say that the MK3 will be used on more big productions than the BMCv1 and MFT model. The BMC4k is a different story, but we have yet to see a single frame grab from it.

Good to see the MK3 finally kicking some arse. For me it's gone from having a $3000 body to a $20,000 body overnight (potentially) however it's only the size of a battery on a $20,000 body which puts it in a class of it's own. Dare I say it "game changer". I can just image Shane Hurlbut in a meeting with a bunch of Canon suits "hey WTF guys?"

If I did the pepsi challenge on that smith rock vid I'd guess it was shot with an Alexa....nuff said.

Woah.Smith rock is a knockout. Wide and deep. Keep em coming. I have a 5D MK II. I sure wish it could get close to this as most of this is MK III right. Squig - will it be ported to the MK II do you know? Looks truly, truly High end.
Best

Excellent comparison.
The BM resolves more detail, it's 2.5K after all. But the amount of color aliasing is huuuuuge!
+1
That first shot with the pebble trail on the BMC is completely unusable. In fact, the Mk3 saved the day on that shot. I'd take a small hit on resolution any day for the confidence of having a moire free image. I had the BMCv1 and one of the primary reasons I sold it was due to moire. That shot from the BMC is moire on Canon T2i levels. There is ZERO arguing that.

I saw the morie from the BMC. It is eye popping and distracting. Didn't see it in the 5dMKIII shot but different shots can cause moire in different cameras, so...

I just got my email (a bit late it seems to me) from B&H saying "hey! Remember you told us to let you know if the BMC EF was available? Well, we got some now!"

A lot of people have been saying BMC 4k is not something to consider because BMC EF isn't even available yet, but it's here now. I think the Black Magic crew have truly worked out their production problems and we will see the 4K BMC in significant numbers when it releases.

But until you see footage from BMC 4k, or Magic Lantern Raw is stable on Canon 5d it's still kind of a toss up.

Although, wow, that 5d Raw footage is pretty!
