Magic Lantern a hazard?

I am considering installing the Magic Lantern firmware on my t2i. Does anyone have any bad experiences with this? Is it worth the risk if there is a risk at all?

The are risks involved but if you know what your doing it's fine. I've shot 2 features on a hacked T2i and yes I had the camera stop recording (right at the start of a take) and I've had the dreaded bricking happen (Where the camera doesn't turn on even if you click it on and off, but I just stayed calm and removed the battery) but I've never had it cost me a shot yet... I'm using the March 13th build now but I'll be updating in the next few days.

In which ways have you taken advantage of magic lantern the most? In other words, what has really come in handy while shooting?

Zebras and focus peaking... The magic zoom also is killer. I record second system audio anyway so the AGC disable isn't really that much of a help but it would be if I wanted to record sound direct into the camera. The T2i without magic lantern is a no go for me...

tmorris- why don't you ask this over in the t2i appropriate section (Canon APS-C)? There's a sticky and FAQ about Magic Lantern there.

I usually have a monitor attached to my T2i so I don't get a ton of use out of the focus peaking (which is buggy sometimes), but I find the following features to be killer:

-histogram in live view
-custom crop marks
-lens info (focal length, focus distance) on the display
-kelvin values for manual white balance
-intermediate ISO's (I use these a lot for photos too)
-intermediate shutter speeds

My issue with Magic Lantern is it causing my camera to freeze. Hasn't really happened in video mode but it has ruined a few time lapse shots. Now I just make sure I use an SD w/o ML installed when I am taking photos or time lapse.

I love the ISO control and histogram though!

Good to know. Thanks.

No bad experiences here.

I had a lockup once when I hit record just after swithing the camera on and before ML had fully loaded. I turned it off and it wouldn't switch off, so I removed the battery, waited 10 secs, put it back in, switched on and kept shooting.

it's working great for me

I absolutely love:
* custom cropmarks
* focus peaking, focus assist (10x zoom while recording)
* spot meter, zebras, histogram, waveform, false color

Works fine for me. No problems on 2 SD cards with the Easter build of ML. Turns the T2i into something really amazing!

- AGC disable
- Manual audio settings for both analogue and digital gain
- Zebras!
- Custom crop marks
- More ISO levels to choose
- Manual white balance by choosing kelvin number
- etc etc etc
