FEATURE: Magic - A Matt Sconce Film

Well, going through Maya tutorials is brain draining but very enjoyable. I am working toward getting to the point where I can fully comprehend and implement putting 3D digital content into my HD scenes. I want to create digital doubles, and other content. right now, I am creating bouncing spheres...haha. We all begin somewhere. ;)

Awesome. I wonder if the skills transfer to other modelers such as 3D Studio Max, Carrara, etc. What training series are you using? Total Training? Or something different. Every filmmaker probably needs to learn 3D. The landscape is really competitive nowadays...

The basic skills transfer but the interfaces are different. I am learning through the gnomon workshop series of lectures.

Hey Matt, Glad to hear that things are moving ahead full steam with MAGIC.

I'm sure you know this, but I thought I'd point it out to the rest of the forum just in case. 3D movies are posted completely in 2D. I've worked on I think five movies that have eventually gone to 3D and we never saw a 3D frame during the entire post process. Well that's not exactly true: once the final mix is near completion the mixers usually screen their work against the 3D image to see if they want to make any changes to the sound mix. But as far as sound editorial goes we worked entirely in 2D. It would be too damaging to our eyes to look at a 3D image for the countless hours that we spend working on movies in post.

Yep! The edit and everything is done in 2D which is why I appreciate the Kerner rigs so much. They use the beam splitter and one camera remains completely stationary as the other moves for the convergence and interocular distance. Because of this, we can edit the completely stationary camera for the cut and when we are ready for 3D we can parent the twin footage to the timeline.

WOW! Maya is a powerful program! I now understand why it was used on
Spider-Man, Star Wars, Episode II: Attack of the Clones, The Lord of the Rings, Gladiator, The Matrix, What Dreams May Come, The Matrix Reloaded, The Hulk and Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines and many more. Learning about it is a mix between my brain exploding, due to complexity, and limitless possibilities unfurling for the future.

Anyone out there a student or Teacher? If so go to Autodesk Student site and get thousands of dollars of free software free. (Maya, Mudbox, 3DS etc) Learn the coolest 3D goodness! Pretty sweet deal.

We are working on the budget for MAGIC. Moving forward. In my spare time I am writing on a feature Sci-Fi Thriller, NODES.

Hooray! A very cool connection made for Alist talent for Magic tonight! We will see how it pans out, but if all goes well we just found out one of us knows the sister of one of my FAVORITE actors.

We made great progress last night on our Comedy/Action feature script "Pest Control". Today we sent off the MAGIC investor package to a wonderful woman and the project will also be in the hands of one of the biggest name actors in Hollywood within the next two weeks. :cheesy:
Go us!:kali:

We like to let people know we are making exciting progress but the approaching and business side of things is better kept off public forums until things are locked in or we are at least "in talks". Otherwise we just create rumor mills which could impact our project negatively. Stay tuned and we will spill the beans when we can. :)
