FS7: Magenta

Just saw Doug's comments on white balance presets. I'm sorry but its just wrong that this is typical or normal. Sorry if it never got corrected on an HPX500 but it worked fine on my HVX200 and every other camera I've owned or used. If the preset looks bad its wrong and should be fixed - fortunately this camera has so many adjustments in it that there is a good workaround for now. However people whop are not briefed on it will be in for a nasty surprise. Like many others here I use presets often.
I have a whole list of suggestions - I hope to post on the Sony board in the next day or so. Happy to see they re working on this stuff.

+1 regarding presets.

I'm sorry, but it is unacceptable - it's an $8,000 camera and we're talking about white balance presets, something that has existed in professional video cameras for a very long time as a reliable standard feature which provides default balance settings for tungsten and daylight. For the switch to exist on this camera and not function as expected is a very serious problem. For owner operators its a problem that can, with annoyance, be side stepped. But left uncorrected, this is going to ruin a lot of footage shot by people renting the camera.

I posted a question on the Sony forum a few days ago about this and included my Christmas parade video as a stellar example. Nothing but crickets so far from Sony.

Unfortunately the just released V 1.1 firmware doesn't seem to solve this issue.

Oh snap, this really sucks as it's a pretty major issue and I'm about to pull the trigger in a few weeks. I'm wondering if Juan Martinze (is that his name? The Sony guy) reads this forum which seems way more active than the official Sony forum.

Maybe the issue needs to raised more on the Sony forum or email Juan the direct link to this thread.

So the work around right now is scene files with Magenta set to -18? I'm wondering if that has other effects on the color?

No, Sony is pretty clear that all they read is their own forums. That's what they are responding to I don't actually use the preset much (and now I know I won't to avoid the issue).

Any recent news on this? My FS7 is in the LA repair center because it has been locking up intermittently and the person I'm working with (Dave) says that they haven't seen this issue. Just wondering if anyone else has been in contact with Sony (and if so, which repair facility?) in regards to this issue. Thanks!

A european Sony Tech Guy informed me that Sony knows the issue(s) - they are aware of it.

In the meantime my general workaround:

a) Either take a dedicated WB off an white or grey card
b) Use ATW (simply push the White Bal Button for that) and let the cam go for a middle ATW (even when shooting) and NAIL IT with ATW Hold (to be assigned to a button)

In most of the shots thats fine and you can generally do it even while rolling.

Its a workaround, I know. Waiting for the fix.

Sorry to hear this has not been taken care of yet. I have a FS7 on order and I agree with Viddovation this is unacceptable. It's a basic function and it should work.

Problem is some of these little issues are not big deals on their own, but if you add it all up it gets annoying. My fear is if Sony took forever to solve some of the F55 issues which is a much more expensive camera, what can we expect for the cheap FS7?

Juan Martinez just mentioned on the Sony Community Forum that Sony is well aware of the magenta problem and working on a solution.

Yep. That's been something I've noticed with cameras in this price range. "Oh, you wanted things to work and not be annoying? Well, that's more of a $20k feature..."
