Twenty years on and Mad Max 4: Fury Road is about to restart the local movie industry, being filmed entirely in Sydney and Outback NSW.

The Daily Telegraph has learned that work on the film will start immediately, injecting tens of millions of dollars into the economy and creating more than 500 jobs.

There has been no confirmation yet of who will play the role of the Road Warrior but rumours abound it will be Australian Terminator star Sam Worthington, with Charlize Theron to co-star.

At least they're not talking about rebooting it in Nebraska with Nicholas Cage as "Max" and Megan Fox as "Jessie".

Cool. I hope it has the feel of 1 & the production value of 2.....and, of course, hope it's way better than 3.

I actually really like Thunderdome. Seems a lot of people don't though, yet they love 1 and 2. Never understood why part 3 is so disliked.

It better not suck.

But it probably will.

I don't know about this whole idea. Nothing against Worthington, but with the originals we have a nice trilogy with consistency due to them all being filmed within about a period of seven years. Plus, you just can't replace Mel Gibson as Max. It's almost as blasphemous as having somebody other than Harrison Ford play Indiana Jones.

I'm going into this with extremely lowered expectations. Not because of the people involved, but the thing is I've learned my lesson with Indy 4 and Star Trek, among other remakes. It's very hard, dare I say impossible to recapture the lightning in a bottle that these late 70's and early to mid 80's films were at the time and have become now.

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy are in negotiations to star in "Fury Road," this century's installment of the "Mad Max" movie series from writer-director George Miller.

Despite his long association with the fourth movie, Mel Gibson is not reprising his iconic role of Max Rockatansky, the hardened ex-cop in a future beset by gas shortages and marauding gangs.

That job goes to Hardy, the British-born actor who stole scenes as Handsome Bob in Guy Ritchie's "RocknRolla." ("RocknRolla" has proved to be a launch pad for Hardy, who booked a role in Christopher Nolan's "Inception" as well. He also starred in "Bronson.")

Theron is playing the female lead.

Story details are being kept under wraps; what's known is that the movie takes place a short while after the story detailed in 1985's "Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome," which would keep Mad Max relatively young.

The filmmakers are eyeing a summer 2010 shoot in Australia. The movie will be an Australian production that Warner Bros. will distribute.

Though I saw all 3 Mad Max film before, but this was the first time I actually sat down and took The Road Warrior in, wow, what a classic piece of film. Wez has to be the, if not, the baddast mofo to ever graced the screened.

With that said, I trully hope they don't screw this up and I co-sign Nektonic with everything he said, especially replacing Mel Gibson. But I wonder why would they even do that, same Director is directing unless Mel Passed on it due to a horrible script or whatever...

I think Mel is still up for playing Max. Older, wiser. Seems unfitting for him not too do this with Miller helming.

Russel Crowe would be sick in this ........

indeed

It better not suck.

i am not religious but i would pray for this
