Hey guys,

i just got a new macpro 2.66GHz Quad-Core Intel Nehalem two days ago,
im about to go out and buy final cut studio 2

i have dual display already and would like to have a HDTV preview display for video editng out,

i would like to know, if i can buy a 2nd video card and get a dvi to hdmi out?
or do i have to get the blackmagic-intensity pro for HD out?

would final cut let me send the video playback though the 2nd video card with a dvi to hdmi out?

or do i really need to get the blackmagic-intensity pro for HD out

thanks

MXO2mini for HDMI out. Has a few more features than the Intensity Pro, is still within the same price range and has a longer warranty. Consider a 1080p plasma for better contrast; regardless, what you see on your HDTV will probably look different color-wise on somebody else's set. Also, consider the size/layout of the room when determining the best size monitor for your needs.

FCP will allow for external monitoring via HDMI with an I/O card (eg. BM, AJA, Matrox, etc) in a dual screen setup, but I'm not sure about the second graphics card setup. I know that FCP can output the preview on the second screen af a dual-screen setup (via DVI, or DVI-HDMI, etc) but then you lose the desktop real estate of that second screen.

Also, FCS "3" just came out ( I say "3" because it's officially called "Final Cut Studio" - some people think that it's more of an update than a new version...). It's cheaper this time around and has a couple more features than FCS2.

FCS2 does not dual monitors.

Stick with an i/o approach.

David, are you saying that FCS2 doesn't support a dual-monitor setup? Or, that it doesn't support preview out while using both monitors for the desktop?

In any case, having a good (or any) I/O solution is essential for doing post-serious work on a MP.

FCP definitely does support dual monitors. I use 'em all the time. Go to Window - Arrange - Dual Screen - <select option>. Or move your windows as you want and then Save Window Layout.

However, I'm not sure about a third monitor for previewing.
