Sigh. Every day, the world gets a little dimmer, doesn't it?

But I have to wonder what the point of this is. Yes, she could avoid being naked on set. But....the whole world will still see her "naked" in the movie? I don't get it.

This way no one sneaks a personal camera onto set and takes for-the-internet nekkid pictures. I guess.

It may just have to do with Alba's personal comfort level, too. I gather she's very reluctant to do nudity. Well, it's not like there's really any reason she needs to.

The heroine-in-the-shower-or-otherwise-naked shot is a staple of the genre which Rodriguez is...homage-i-fying? There kind of had to be something like that in there somewhere.

The pose doesn't expose her breasts, anyway; she's standing side-on to the camera, leaning forward in such a way that her left arm conceals her chest and you only see her behind in profile. If she had done the scene nude-for-real the end result would have been identical to the processed shot. Which I guess is another reason to do it in post; spares the actress performing nude in front of whatever minimal crew needed to be there and has no effect on the end product.

As with Kate Beckinsale in Underworld II she doesn't really show any more than you would see if she were wearing a teeny little bikini. But the fact that there's no teeny little bikini visible creates the pleasant illusion that you are seeing more.

I don't see how the choice to eschew nudity is indicative of 'character.' Are actors willing to perform nude therefore lacking in character?

To the whole world who doesn't know she wasn't really naked on set....she's still naked. What's would she gain by having the "character" to do it this way? Everyone would still think she was naked.

Besides, in this day in age, nudity on camera is hardly rare and hardly a sign of a weak character. Kate Winslet has been naked in MULTIPLE movies and she's an Oscar winner - and about 10,0000 times the actress Alba is to boot.

You're missing a few zeroes there, cowpoke.

Responses to screen nudity say absolutely nothing about the character of the performer and absolutely everything about the character of the respondent.

Of course not.

But Alba is a gorgeous young woman with a great body, and 100% of all actresses in movies are faced with the "show the merchandise" or "don't show the merchandise" dilemma whether it's in a movie or for a magazine.

I'm sure as hell a lot of young good looking women have taken their clothes off even though they haven't really wanted to, and the only reason she still hasn't is because she's actively chosen not to every time that has come up despite pressure.

That's character.

It may simply be a matter of personal preference. After all, she is a nice girl from a respectable Pomona family...

...add to that the fact that for her, professionally, it's not necessary. She may collect a somewhat smaller fee but it may not be a big deal.

Alternately, she's saving it for when it might make for a far bigger pay day. Although I rather doubt that's the case.

You have shattered my last remaining illusion about cinema.

Damn you for killing my final glimmer of innocence.

Damn you.

I'm a big RR fan, he's one of the reasons I got into filmmaking. But what I love about RR films is the casting. I've always thought the way for Segal to make a comeback in film is as a badguy and it seems I wasn't the only one. And as someone mentioned, seeing Segal in a film with Deniro is awesome in itself. But Jeff Fahey! LOL, I used to watch all his old cable flicks, so it's good to see him on the big screen. And this isn't the first time he's worked with Don Johnson. He's popped up and Miami Vice and Nash Bridges. The casting is really not something you'd expect. Dinero is in a film with a bunch of B actors. This was cast like a one would cast a straight to video movie, only the budget is bigger. LOL. Sorry to say this but because of cashflow issues, I'll be seeing this when it comes to Redbox.

Hey, I didn't see any other characters that were conveniently trained pilots when there just happened to be aircraft nearby! Useless indeed...

LOL, when the sub sank, then he came up on the beach, I thought: "okay, so we know they're still going to get off the island on the plane..."
