Machete.

I think there might be a thread for this, or it was discussed in another one. Not sure.

The red band trailer really makes me want to see it now. Looks like a blast!

While I appreciate what RR has done for filmmaking I haven't been overly impressed by what he's made aside from Sin City. A couple others have been watchable. But this looks like it might be fun.

I really want to see this one.

But man, Robert DeNiro and Steven Seagal in the same movie......I don't know what to say.

The film I'm most eagerly awaiting this summer. Should be great. Its Robert Rodriguez doing what he does best.

Yeah, the clips on Yahoo aren't too inspiring...And I sure as hell don't buy Alba carrying any kind of badge. She looks like she's 15 years old--

I always regarded this project with some trepidation, as I always do with RR when he's had a hand in the screenwriting. But we'll see.

Yeah. It looked kind of boring. Of course they don't show too much when they release those but I just wasn't feeling what I saw. RT doesn't help either.

What's wrong with the RT?

It has a 72% right now, which isn't bad. Not much worse than Planet Terror and Sin City, and neither of those disappointed.

In a movie where Danny Trejo jumps out a window using another man's intestines as a rope, are we really worried about buying Alba as a cop?

After seeing the clips, my real fear is that this is going to take itself too seriously. In every one of those scenes, the actors should be slicing off nice thick chunks of hamon. Loving the juicy badness of it all. That's what made his half of Grindhouse so delicious.

And the lighting in that bedroom scene is terrible. Which could wash if they were going for the gusto...

I will still see it, but yeah those clips are less than inspiring...

That's good! I must have looked at it way early. I thought it was lower earlier in the week. I'm going later tonite, Wifey just gave me the go!! whoo hoo.

I wanted to go tonight with a group of friends, but I'm the only one that was interested in it. So it'll have to be next week.

Have to say this is one badass poster, though--

Loved El Mariachi. Hated, hated, hated Desperado. Bored by From Dusk to Dawn. Hated Grindhouse/Planet Terror. Haven't seen anything else (including Sin City).

Kudos to RR for his spirit of independent filmmaking, certainly an inspiring guy, and a great, great inspired film in El Mariachi. But he's shaping up to be a one-hit wonder in my book (possible caveat: haven't seen Sin City). Machete is looking very iffy to me. It seems like it's more of the continuation of Planet Terror, which was just tired, boring, completely uninspired by-the-numbers sfx fest.

I don't mind gore. I love gore. But I like originality. And I like when things are involving. When it pulls you in. I've seen explosions, thanks. Yes, even very big ones. And I've seen heads chopped off and what-not - you gotta do better than the average video game. Please, make it interesting - you can't just rely on an exploding head, seen that a million times. If you don't match the emotion to the effect, it will fall flat. Small emotion, big explosion - not involving. Big emotion, big explosion - now you're talking. RR seems to be zero art, lots of sfx. Pass. I'll wait to catch Machete on Netflix.
