MacBook Questions

So, I'm buying a macbook pro soon. Torn between getting the 17" which has FW 800 or the cheaper 15" which is more portable but only has FW 400?

If I plan on capturing direct to disk using FCP on the macbook, is FW 800 a necessity? Or does 400 have the bandwidth for it?

Also, anyone know when the PCMCIA adapter for the express card slot comes out? Link to the page? I tried searching for it to no avail...

Duel Systems is supposed to come out with one by next year. Right now, no one seems to have an adaptor that you can put a P2 card in and connect it to a PowerBook Pro Express slot, or Firewire, or USB...

Until then, you're stuck using the FireWire connection to the camera to "see" the P2 card contents.

Just a few comments, as I have the 17" and a friend of mine has the 15":

- If you want portability, the 15" feels significantly more portable than the 17"

- FW400 is more than enough for direct capture of DVCPRO HD.

- Having two firewire ports is what matters, as you can shuffle disks without removing the camera.

- The 17" is not that expensive when comparing it to the top of the line 15".

- If you have a few P2 cards, the P2 store is actually a pretty good investment right now, if your computer is missing a Cardbus slot.....
