Macbook Pro won't recognize HVX200

I posted this in the DVX100 tech section by mistake. Please excuse my double posting:

I have a Macbook Pro with Final Cut Studio which was purchased about a month ago. When I first received the laptop I plugged in the HVX200 via firewire and the devide was detected immediately. Since then, I've re-installed the OS and FCP...plugged in the HVX200 and no detection. Other firewire devices are working fine - Lacie HD. I tried plugging in two different HVX200's (while the cameras were off) and no detection. Any idea what's happening here? If I had hair I'd pull it out.

Thanks,

Simple and Safe as well as permanant solution:

Change the device mode to USB DEVICE in the menus of the HVX, then when you go to DEVICE mode make sure the P2 card is switched over to WRITE PROTECT (its the switch on the p2 Card itself). Then connect a USB cable to the HVX, then connect it to the Mac. Wallah! Mounts 100% of the time everytime :)

Thanks for the replies guys.

The camera has been in firewire connect mode

Mounting from Disk Utilities? not sure what that means as I am new to the MAC. Settings in the MAC?

I'll try the USB - can't go wrong with 100% of the time evertime.

If you're going to a Mac, be aware that USB mode is not guaranteed to work. It's only guaranteed for the PC, not for the Mac.

For the mac you're supposed to use 1394 Device mode and connect via firewire.

Not garunteed, but for the Intel Macs, on the ones i have access to and ones i own, ive never had a failed mount via USB. All you have to make sure is that the card is in write protect mode. Id take non-garunteed USB though before i do any unneccessary Firewire connecting and disconnecting, ive been paranoid about the firewire port thing for a while.

OK Barry, any ideas as to why the firewire was working fine and is now not detecting both cameras that I've tried. I'm stumped on this one.

Does the firewire port work on anything else? There's a known issue of 6-pin firewire ports blowing up 4-pin camera ports. Try a different camera and a different computer (and a different cable!) until you figure out which part of the chain isn't working.

I've tried two cameras (one was brand new out of the box) and also tried different cables. The port on the computer is working fine with other devices. So it's either the settings of the computer...or possibly drivers for the HVX? I don't think I shorted out two firewire ports. Thanks for your time and advice.

Have you done everything the instruction book recommends - page E76 in my version - connecting external units, non-linear editor? It explains about mounting volumes from Disk Utility (which is in the Utilities folder of your Applications folder). The camera can be picky about which order you plug things in - try different orders. And you may need to turn off thumbnail screen. I've never had any problems mounting my HVX to a MacBook Pro. But why did you have to re-install OS on a brand-new machine? Did you do a clean install or could old preference files be still knocking about and confusing the peripherals?
best of luck

I've found recently that connecting my HV200 via 1394a in SD SD will feed a signal to my alBook, but HD won't. Have tried 1080 60, 720 24, 720 30 and 720 60, NG. FCP doesn't pick up the video signal, but I see the audio meters respond. Not sure what I'm doing differently, but it did work a few months back.
