I did a search and couldn't seem to find any answers in regards to p2 offload times for the macbook pro. I've got a macbook pro core duo 2.16 w/ 7200rpm internal drive, running osx tiger with final cut 5.1.4. ...oh and two gigs of RAM. my offload times are really slow. because of the pci express slot I am forced to connect via firewire from the cam. I have used p2cms successfully and final cut, but it takes about six mintues for four gigs of footage....does that sound right? seems like I've read about much quicker offload times using an even lesser laptop?? what's the scoop. If I went with the duel systems adapter would I get better performance out of my macbook pro?

Sadly thems the breaks. There's the Duel Adapter and the Panasonic P2 Drive. Or purchase a used powerbook for direct PCMCIA connection.

Sounds about right

Sounds about right

That sounds about right to me. You might get a little more speed with the Duel Adapter because connecting directly to the camera you're limiting throughtput to the FW400 connection.

You should get much faster times using the Duel adapter w/MBP - about 30/sec per gb.
Older PB yields about 1 min/gb dnld time.

So strange that it is that slow considering it is a little older but still one of the fastest laptops out there?? So here is a question...who is getting faster offload times using a laptop and what is your setup?

I did some tests on this recently with a MBP and Duel Systems Adpator. 1st place = DA to internal MBP HDD. 2nd place = DA adaptor to FW800 / 400 external HDD. 3rd place = DA to USB 2.0.

HVX with fw400 connection is MUCH slower, especially to an external HDD.
